I know that if I cancel points I have to use them within that use year. But do they transfer over to RCI and then have the 3 year window. I am a Platinum owner and usually book my RCI online. Thanks

All I know is cancelled points are usable in RCI. I usually use all my points every year and as a VIP - I grab points out of the next Use Year also.

No, they have a 2-year life in RCI, not 3 years.

You have the option to credit pool regular use year points up until September (for January use year points) as Platinum - that gives you 3 years of life on the Wyndham points. But you can't credit pool cancelled points.

If you have made reservations that COULD have been taken from cancelled points but were pulled from Regular use year points instead, you can ask they be restacked (same or next day) by calling in. Just thought I'd point that out since if you make reservations online, the system pulls from regular use year points before cancelled points.

Thanks. Eric, this issue is I made a small reservation around 100,000 points for my son and have to cancel it. I am not sure I will be able to use them by the end of December. We already have a couple of trips books at the end of this year. So was just wondering if they would flip over to RCI. Thanks for the 2 year clarification.

No, they have a 2-year life in RCI, not 3 years.

Due to a massive change in plans, I dumped a large number of points into RCI in November of 2013. They have and expiration date of 8/31/2016 in RCI. That is just short of 3 years.

Date of deposit makes a big difference. If you had deposited in JUL 13, the points would have expired on 8/31/15. It seems the late-year deposits (9/1-12/31) get the benefit of several extra months.

Other have reported different annual expiration dates (i.e. not 8/31), so I am not sure what the rhyme or reason is.

I'm still unsure about the context of "use"

Does "use them" mean reserved AND complete travel within the same use year? Or is it possible to use cancelled points (that are expiring in 2015) to reserve (while still in 2015) a vacation for summer 2016?

I'm planning to reserve a Waikiki backup week for July 4th 2015 which I might cancel (in Jan 2015) if the same week in HGVC opens up. If I do cancel that backup week, can I then use the cancelled points to reserve a summer 2016 Bonnet Creek week before 2015 use year ends? Jan-Dec is my use yr.

Thanks!

Use means book and travel in RCI.

Most places, with a few minor exceptions, mean book and travel. DAE has the only book by but does not mean travel expiration that I am aware of in the avenues and points programs I am in.

Unfortunately, Wyndham is not like Worldmark (in which you CAN use points that expire on 12/31/14 for reservations in 2015). The only thing that the Use Year requires is that the travel be initiated during that year. You can book the reservation up to 10 or 13 months out, which could be during the previous year.

If you are trying to book July 4th, the 10-month window opens now.

Cancelled points need to used up by the end of the use year in which the cancelled reservation existed. In your case, you would have to use your cancelled 2015 points for a Wyndham reservation that begins before 12/31/15.

If you can't find a Wyndham to book before the end of the year, you can deposit your cancelled points to RCI. Unless you need to do so earlier, I would wait to make such a deposit until 9/1/15, which would give them the longest life possible. You may be able to book Bonnet Creek using RCI (this incurs a booking fee), depending on when you want to go.

Cancelled (or any 2014) points for 2014 USE YEAR ending Dec 31 can book and USE for 7 nights starting on SUN Dec 28, 2014 IF it is NOT a split reservation with the 2nd part of the reservation starting on or after Jan 1, 2015.

Shux, it's what I feared. I'd rather not give RCI an extra $210 though. I guess I just have to pray harder. HGVC club reservation is yet to open in 3 weeks. Hopefully, there will be something from either club then as I'm reserving a 4th of July week.

Thanks TUG folks!
