I just got back from my third trip to the Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Village resort... it rocked. On the way back, my wife and I were discussing that one week is really not long enough to truly enjoy the resort, the island, and all the activities in the area. We have a fixed week contract that we can go to every other year; not points and I am not really interested in converting my FW to points. I am sure there are several ways of "splicing" another week onto my FW contract besides converting from FW to points and buying more points to get the two week time frame I am talking about wanting.

What would you think would be the best, most flexible, and least costly way of turning my one week stay into two at the resort?

Thanks in advance!

Post in Market Place the week or weeks you want and see if someone with extra points can snag it for you on a continuing basis.

Do not limit you activity to that, you can also look to see if Shell or other clubs have someone that could get the needed week. Do not know a lot about Shell, but I think they have some HI locations.

Extra Holidays might help. With the price of travel to HI, a full retail price booking may not be as expensive as it looks.

There is currently a red floating biennial week at Kona up on ebay. Presumably you would be able to float this next to your fixed week to accomplish what you want. Not sure if your week is even or odd but maybe this would fit?

FYI, this is one of the ebay resellers I trust.

The other approach is to extend your stay by less than another full week, which would best be done by working with a platinum points owner.

I'm glad to hear you've had such a great time on your trips there. I haven't been there since our honeymoon and it's time to plan a trip back.

I usually find the BEST way to get a cheap week/unit is to spend some time talking to the other "guest" who are owners while I am at the resort. There is a surprising number of people who go, but would prefer to be free of the ALWAYS must go.

Renting from a Wyndham owner is also NOT a bad plan - 203-231K is the points cost without a discount. While some big Wyndham owners will offer you a rate UNDER your MFs (as they will do a booking within 60 days of check in), it would depend on when you are buying your plane tickets.

Plus, anything you buy if YOURS until you get rid of it ... along with the MFs. ;)

You know Linda, I'm glad you brought this up. I keep forgetting this as a great resource for potential leads.
