Has anyone been to the Wyndham Smugglers Notch in Vermont? There is a review from September 2013 that rates the resort very poorly. But is that resort even a Wyndham? Thinking of sending guests in October.

We have owned at Smugglers Notch since 1999. Wyndham became involved with the resort a few years ago. What exactly do you want to know? We go to the resort every year- use both our fixed week and floating week.We are not Wyndham owners, nor are we RCI points owners. I am going to read the last review you spoke of and come back to comment on it here.

Many, many Tuggers have been to this resort - if you join TUG, you will be able to access our extensive TUG reviews for this resort.

There are several other reviews which rate the resort as excellent. I will admit the last review where the guest stayed in the Maples Building is very disturbing at the very least, but not really a typical representation of the resort overall. I guess you will always find someone at one time or another that has a bad experience at any resort, but overall the resort is rated very highly. There are different buildings/complexes at the resort. Older ones in the village- newer ones in Highland Hills, West Hills and North Hill. Wyndham also has Presidential suites there.

Tell us what you are looking for for your guests and I and other Tuggers can assist you. Joining the group as Denise stated is a good idea

I was wondering if the Wyndham units were nice as well as the resort.

I have joined TUG; I don't understand why my 'status' is shown as guest.

The "Wyndham" units at Smuggs are the nicest units on the grounds (North Hill and I think a couple of buildings at West Hill) but you have to be careful. When you book through the Wyndham portal I've still seen the older more dated units in the middle of the village.

Earlier in October is better than later in October I think. By late October in can be pretty darn quiet up there.

The newer units are in West Hill (Sycamores and Falcons), North Hill (Tamaracks and Eagles) and Highlands (Aspens). The buildings that are named for birds- like Falcons, Kestrels are family share buildings and bit more upper end and the Owls have the Presidential suites. There are also some very nice units in the village, but then there are also older units there as well. The resort has been slowly upgrading many of them, so I wouldn't count them out entirely. The Willows, which are also just outside the village are very nice.

Besides being newer construction, the difference is that West Hill, North Hill and Highlands have use of their own pool and the village homes use the "bubble enclosed" (in fall and winter) Courtside pool and hot tubs. Also, Mountain Laurels (in Highlands area) have their own pool. I believe it is a salt water pool. The Aspens and Sycamores pools are heated and, although outside, open all year round. North Hill has an indoor and outdoor pool. They each have a small clubhouse and gym/lockers.

The best time to go in the Fall is by Columbus Day week the latest. Anytime past that week, the foliage is brown and going, and it gets cold, and the other issue is the Notch closes soon afterward and you can't drive through it (an experience in itself-something not to miss) and you have to drive the longer way into Stowe, which you would want to visit, as there are good restaurants, shops, and things to see like Mount Mansfield (take the auto toll road or the gondola) and Trapp Family Lodge among others.

Hi,
I didn't read the review, but we stayed in the Maple's a few years ago and were very disappointed. Our unit was very old and seemed dirty, but I suspect it was because everything in the unit was so outdated. We had a two bedroom but there was only one small bathroom. I had heard such wonderful things about the resort, and I tried to change units at the front desk, but they said there was nothing they could do for us, also they mentioned we were on a RCI exchange. This was before Wyndham had a presence there. Also we paid alot of money to be able to use all the facilities because we were exchangers. We haven't been back, but perhaps one day we will go through Wyndham and see if we have a better experience.
