We have an exchange to Royal Islander first part of the summer. Looking at options for Tours and Airport Transportation. How do Tuggers rate Thomas Moore vs the other options? Any all suggestions are welcome, relative to the above question or any other additional information. It has been 15+ years since we have been to Cancun. There will be four of us, 2 seniors, 1 adult and 1 child, age 13.

Airport transportation

We always use Cancun Valet for airport transportation. For 4 people, it will cost you about the same or less for private transportation with Cancun Valet than it will with shared transportation with Thomas Moore. We have used Cancun Valet for over 12 years and have never once had an issue with them. HIGHLY recommend.

For tours, it is probably easier to just use Thomas Moore and book on site. Personally, I am not a fan of Thomas Moore for anything, but they are acceptable for tours.

Add Canada Transfers to the approved list

+1 for Canun Valet or USA transfers

We have been well-satisfied users of USA Transfers, but we tried the newer Canada transfers last January...liked it better and will use them again. As a large plus for Canadians (we are not), they accept $Canada at par.

Maja, Your last statement is why I recommend TM...One Stop Shop!!! (airport transfer & Tours)...I can't see saving a dollar or 2 if everything is right there..JMO.......CONVENIENCE costs just a little "more" LOL

+1 for Cancun Valet, but the other recommendations are also good

We don't use Th Moore for airport transportation for several reasons:

they are more expensive than the others; the others use private vans which once you hit three or four people are less expensive than Th Moore's individual prices. BUT check the online sites for each one

Th Moore seems less flexible; they pick up people for the return trip earlier than needed (in my opinion).

We like being met by someone holding a sign for us (Cancun Valet, and probably USA Transfers and Canada Transfers as well?)

The service is pretty much the same on all same vans, similar drivers, etc. We just like CV.

also, even though you are technically booked for the RI, do be sure go go next door to the Royal Caribbean. More pool areas, another restaurant, the Express takeout (my favorite), etc. The 13 y/o especially may like the volleyball net set up across the pool area by the B building.

We are going to the Grand Luxxe on Friday for a week, then I will be at the Royal Sands for 2 weeks. We rent a car so we haven't used a transfer company in years.

Have a fabulous trip!

How is the car renting experience? All the websites show low weekly rental fees but than small print says does not include mandatory insurance with no mention how much that may be. Any tips or insight? Google search shows some horror stories.

Do your research before going. Depending on the rental agency they may be less than truthful about what's required. That initial cheap rate you see may triple by they time you pay your bill. Take pictures of rental before you drive out of lot, with date on.

Also know what your credit card company will cover and make sure you reserve and pay with that card. Know that some cards will not cover you outside of U.S. Also, inform your insurance agent and make sure your covered.

TripAdvisor has good feedback on this issue. Lots of horror stories posted. Here's a link that may help too:

Entertainment Plus is the one I would use for trips. Same trips lower prices.

We used to live in Mexico, so we are bilingual. We also have driven in the area for 30+ years. Our rental for an automatic mid sized car for 10 days (when my husband goes home I will not keep the car) $800 including the 3rd party insurance. Our Platinum AMEX covers the rest of the insurances. We always use either Hertz or Avis.

Thanks, I love mexico and the language isn't a problem for me, neither is the driving. Honestly my biggest worry is someone seeing gringos in a rental and causing an accident trying to extort money. I watch too much locked up abroad.

I totally agree. We own at the Sands and have used USA every time. We just booked transfers for the Haciendas next month so we checked Thomas Moore and USA. USA was by far the better price unless you're willing to take a shared van and wait while they drop everyone off at other resorts.
