Just a quick question...how much on average do people pay to get VIP status if they have never bought points from the developer to begin with? my husband and I have used resale points, but am curious as to how much on average people pay to obtain the VIP privilege. The resort to us does not matter. Thank you

I would say $50K plus for 400K points.

If Hell bent on getting VIP buy a couple 3 BR PIC units on e-bay cheapo and then spring for around $25K to get VIP Gold. Ask for bonus up to Platinum for two years.

Or, hang tough and trade in resale contracts for new Developer contract.

I think the answer is so variable that there isn't really a good "average" number to use, and probably isn't meaningful anyway. Both the costs to attain, and the value of, VIP status vary frequently. I think most would caution that for personal use, it isn't going to pay off to chase VIP status.

Eric has ir right...The cost varies...it varies now and it has varied over time

If you buy from Wyndham 700000 points (Gold VIP) will cost over $100000
that price has been less

If you use the PIC program you can bring in 508000 points from elsewhere, but you will still have to buy about 200000 points from Wyndham...Ive been quoted $35000
PIC used to allow unlimited points from outside Wyndham so some here got in very cheap

There are little known and little understood "loopholes" that come and go.. There was a time when certain Wyndham fixed weeks could be converted to points, with a small purchase....This is how I became Platinum VIP for a $12000 new purchase. Now they have brought that in line with the PIC program and require a much larger new purchase. re:loopholes, Ive been told that there are certain resorts, if originally bought before a certain time, or if converted before that special time, continue to transfer with VIP intact...this may be an urban legend, but Im testing it out. And no I wont tell anyone if Im successful or not (a guys gotta have some secrets)

the most important question is.. Does VIP, whatever the cost, make sense for you?...The big benefits is the discount within 60 days of check in, and if available, upgrades. The increased guest confirms makes a difference for some of us at the Platinum level (30=$3000/yr) but not so much at silver or gold (5=$500/yr and 10=$1000/yr) You have to do a lot of 60 day reservations and have a lot of guests to have a "payback" period of less than 15 years or so)
