Can anyone tell me the distance between the Ft. Lauderdale airport and the cruise terminal in Miami. We are taking a Carnival cruise and were wondering if it is possible to fly to Ft. Lauderdale/ Southwest and take a taxi to the cruise terminal in Miami. I am sure it is possible but is it reasonable?

You are talking about a 45 minute drive. ..more in traffic. I would look into a ride share or some other form of transportation than a metered cab..unless of course you negotiate a flat rate with them.

I paid $12 per person each way last year. I had to wait about 15 minutes to be picked up but the van was waiting for me on the return. I think taxi cost $75

We were on a Disney cruise in April and flew home out of Fort Lauderdale. We hit no traffic (Sunday) and was in the FLL area in about 35-40 minutes. It was an easy ride.

Also, loved the FLL airport. Small, clean and easy to navigate.

I had a rental at the port, so can't help you out on other options.

Why not fly into Miami?

Another reason is that, many times you can get a more favourable flight schedule from your home airport flying to FLL as opposed to MIA.

And, of course, there's cost. Some flights might be cheaper. I know when we plan to fly to S. FL, I always compare schedule and costs with each of the two airports. I also factor in other (in)conveniences and compare.

Heck, even doing two one-way flight segments with our inbound flight landing at FLL and outbound flight leaving MIA (or vice-versa) can be cheaper. We just have to book a one-way car rental picking it up at one airport and dropping it off at the other.

Why not fly into Miami?

You are both correct..SW does not fly to Miami and we have some credit left on SW plus they were the best priced plus no baggage fee.
