I intend to rent my timeshare week in 2011 instead of using it myself.
I am a member at Occidental Grande Aruba, however I plan to offer a week at a resort in the D.R. or Mexico, because the A.I. fees are so much lower.
I am finding the process quite confusing and I would like some help.

First, about the all-inclusive fee: is it paid at he time of reservation, or by the renter upon arrival?

Also, what is the customary value assigned to the room when one rents it to another party?

I do not own a fixed week, but "Season 2," which is anything except Christmas/New Years and Easter week.
Should I make a reservation and hope for a renter who wants that exact week, or offer a range of dates and hope that what the renter wants is available at the time when he/she is in contact with me?

HELP!!! I really feel like I'm in over my head here, and I am pretty capable in other arenas of life, believe it or not!!!!!

Thanks to anyone who can help me get started here!!![/B][/I]

Travel to Mexico is depressed because of the economy, lingering fears about h1n1, and fears of violence. The market is flooded with Mexican rentals right now, and many people avoid AI resorts, so frankly, this is probably not a good idea. Aruba is probably a far better renter.

By the renter on-site.

You should research the comps on the major rental sites, but the market is so depressed right now that it's not good. There are people renting their Mexico weeks for $1 + AI right here on TUG.

Since you can't reserve the most popular weeks, this probably isn't a viable idea.

i'm a member of occidential resorts and had for two years tried to trade my week but had no luck. you might be better off banking your week to next year with occidential than getting nothing for your week . also i just traded my week into rci for next year, to pic up more time so i would not lose the week.:wall:

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that option. Maybe the economy will pick up a little by then....

Just to be sure you know - if you deposit it with RCI, you can't use the exchange for a rental.
