Received email from a Doug Brown wanting to purchase one of my timeshares which I had listed on TUG.

then I get this email... BEWARE! - Of course I decline the offer...

Peggy

"Hi
Thanks for your mail.My friend is ok with it and has agreed to settle for that price.I have also just finalized payment issues with him some hours ago,and he has informed me that he is expecting a refund payment of a Timeshare that he had earlier paid for about a month ago, but the order was later cancelled, because when the agent went to see the Timeshare,he inspected the order and discovered that the Timeshare was not the same one in the Address,so the order was cancelled, and then he filed in for a refund of his money. My client now intends to use this refund to pay for your Timeshare that he now wants to buy. Due to company policy and book keeping, this refund payment which he is expecting, can only be made out in this one whole amount, that is the full amount which he paid before, because the company policy only allows a refund payment in one cashier check, so he has to instruct for the check payment to be drawn to you.He is expecting a refund payment of $2,100.When payment gets to you, you are required to deduct the cost of your Timeshare which is $151 and return his remaining balance of $1,949 to the logistic agent for him to be able to offset charges, tax and other commission charges on his arrival. After all payment has reached you and balance sent to the agent,he will now come for further proceedings while you send the receipt and other title papers to my client via courier.
You are required to forward your payment information (1) name,(2)address and (3) phone number for payment to be made to you immediately. "

Classic example

A great example of the nonsense scammers try to use to sweet talk the seller into taking a bogus check/money order/etc and then getting real cash back before the seller knows the instrument offered was bogus. As things can actually appear legit it is far too easy to fall into this type of scam - you need your high alert ears on.

You correctly identified a scam attempt but it may not be the last. Good luck with your transfer and hopefully you'll have a real taker for the time soon.
