As a New Starwood owner, I was wondering if there is a must have credit card for all STarwood Owners? With maintenance fees due, I though it would be a good opportunity to earn Star Options for hotels and airlines.

On mystarcentral.com I see them advertise an SPG credit card (AMEX) offering 15000 points after you spend $750. Is this card the best option or are there other recommendations to earn points for hotel stays and more importantly frequent flyer miles for different airlines?

Starwood AMEX earns Starpoints which transfer to most airlines.

20k Starpoints = 25K FF miles on most airlines.

15K SP's is not a great deal - they often offer incentives of 20K and 30K SP's.

Here is an offer with a 25K SP incentive.

More Info.

Denise:

Thanks .. when I searched the TUG forums for 'SPG credit card' it told me too many listings to display.. so I had no luck searching on TUG.

So for the 25K Starpoints .. you get 10000 pts for signing up and you have to spend $15K in 6 months to get 15000 points ... I assume this is an extra 15000 pts for a total of 40000 points?

Does the $65 annual fee get you any perks..like a free night stay in some category hotel?

From the 'more info' link you provided it is my understanding that for maintenance fees you get 2 points per dollar and not the 4 points per dollar you would get from a hotel stay?

You are right. You get two Starpoints per dollar of MFs.

The increased fee is a drag. we use our SPG AMEX card for our MFs via MSC and get 2x SPs as well as at the resorts - we've accumulated quite a few on Costco alone... :0)
