And that explains WHY my fancy booking to rent points and then cancel did NOT show the new points in my Available Points, but was still showing if I tried to BOOK a unit over the count of my available points to make sure the 2 DVC RCI "trading into exchanges" will be "blessed" when RCI goes to Wyndham to fetch the points.

In other words, my Cancel Points count did not correct to the right number on last night's overnight run.

Whew ... Good, my RCI exchanges from yesterday are still showing in my RCI history.

Yes, they apparently had several people impacted. I called at about 11:15 this morning and they said they had several complaints - no problem in getting my cancellations and getting my points restored.
