My old desktop computer died and I purchased a new laptop for my home computer. Do I have to purchase a new version of MS office or is there a way to load office 2003 on my new computer? I still have my disc and the operating system on the laptop is XP Pro. Thanks

Same thing happened to me and I just put my MS Office Pro into another desktop. So far so good, no-one has asked me to re-register.

I've had several computers and 2003 works fine. You can load it on 2 computers. My newest is Vista and no problems.

If and when it says you need to contact Microsoft to activate the software, just tell them your old computer died and you installed it on your new one. It's not a problem. They will ask you how many computers the software is installed on. They just want to be sure you haven't installed it on more than one machine at a time. Your license allows it to be installed on one (or two, dependng on version you have), machines at a time.

Inconvenient? Yes. Illegal? No.

Thanks. I'll go ahead and try to install it and inform Microsoft if necessary. I have the student and teacher version if that makes any difference.
