We have a wedding in Montauk at the Sole East Resort the first weekend in May. Does anyone have any info on this place or any recommendation of a timeshare in the area to check out. It sounds like it is a nice place to visit, not sure how much time we will have to check out the area but are there any recommendations on restaurants & activities? The wedding being May 3 could let us stay the week leading up to it or the week after. We would also like to visit with our son and his wife in Manhattan so if there is anything in that area we would consider it and then drive over to Montauk for the wedding. How far from Manhattan to Montauk. We would also consider exchanging our Maui or Grand Cayman timeshare that are 2 bedroom. Any recommendations on maybe a home to rent?
thanks

I live on Long Island. Montauk is close to a 3 hour trip to Manhattan and will be quiet during that time of year. It is quite pretty and relaxed. Popular with surfers. You may want to look at Gurneys or contact a local real estate professional for a home rental. I know a realtor in that area..... Patrick Dennis......cell is 516 769-6906. I am sure he can give you some assistance. Quite of few quality wineries in that area........a side trip to Shelter Island or Sag Harbor may interest you.......in addition to the wealthy communities of East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Amagansett....which are all part of what is referred to as the 'South Fork'. Most of the lodging in Montauk is on the modest side.....catering to the budget minded and beach lovers. The ocean temps will keep you from going for a swim.......High 50's. One last thought is taking the ferry to Block Island from Montauk. Block is considered the Bermuda of New England.......also quite pretty and relaxing that time of year. If you are just in Montauk, for most, just a couple of days will be enough.

Yup, i was just about to comment. I live on Long Island. Montauk is 'technically' 3hrs from Manhattan, but for those from Minnesota, when we say that, that 3hrs is distance not time.

You will be driving on roads like Sunrise Highway(27)(Not an actual Highway for most of it) and the Long Island Expressway(495)(There is NO express), these are some of the heaviest traffic roads in the nation. That '3 hr' distance has take ME anywhere from 8hrs on a busy August weekend, to 3hrs in the dead of winter, and that's from the middle of Long Island(Massapequa area) to Montauk, not from Manhattan. If you are going anytime close to Memorial Day, you should expect it to take 5-6hrs.

If i were you and i planned to go from Montauk to Manhattan, i'd look into the Long Island Rail Road.

I often take the Hampton Jitney….round trip is $60 per person…they also do an airport stop where they arrange for a taxi from the bus to the airport.
Manhattan to Montauk is 3 hours.

LIRR is an option but takes longer and only runs 2-3 x day

Edit - I live 30 miles from "the end" but it is 45-60 minute ride on country roads.
Southampton to Manhattan is 2 hours depending on traffic and time if day.

That's a Jitney?
Looks like a nice first class bus to me. :p
You should see our Jitney's, they are little vans packed to the gills with riders, animals and anything else people can pack into them.
