Someone posted this in the new to timeshareing forum but I thought it should be brought to the attention of Shell owners here as well.

I have owned 13000 Shell points for over 5 years and have never paid for housekeeping even when booking 2, 3, or more stays of different lengths. On April 22nd, 2016 I booked one night at The Legacy in Phoenix after my son's wedding, and they hit me with a $47 "housekeeping fee". When I called Shell they told me it was because my "contract" only gives me 2 free housekeeping events per USE YEAR!! That's a new wrinkle since Wyndham has taken over. Why would anyone buy enough points for 2 or 3 or more weeks if you have to pay for housekeeping for anything over 1 week? Considering how expensive Shell's maintenance fees are (22 cents per point per year), I would expect that to be part of those fees.

It might be time to dump my Shell points if they are going to start nickle and diming us to death. Anyone else experience this charge?

Yes, I saw that slip in after the Wyndham purchase. It seems that there are a number of negative changes post-Wyndham yet we still pay premium MF charges. We just had a huge reduction in exchange value with II as well. Perhaps this is how they plan to get people to dump SVC and re-sell it at Wyndham?

Thankfully, there is free housekeeping for signature members at a certain level...

Right after they make a Shell Club Access Program.:ignore:

That is where the Ovations (CWP and fixed week deeds go) ... into the CWA program. Way cheaper than building resorts (under any model), same paperwork for all the sales rooms and etc.

All Wyndham Sales needs now is robots with auto-release locks on a room with a scan, ATM credit card scanner with dried up danishes next to a coffee pot.

Sorry to bump this, but it seemed like the best place to ask. I'm considering getting some Shell points, and had a quick question.

Once you've used your 'free' housekeeping, is the housekeeping fee charged when you make the reservation or at the resort? I'd prefer when booking (like my Worldmark account) because then if they make a mistake I can discuss it then instead of with a desk clerk. That would especially be better for giving Disneyland stays to my family (one of my intended uses).

I believe you are charged at checkin, at least that's what happened at Vino Bello last year. $45 Studio to $75 3 Bedrooms

It's always charged at check-in.

Thanks! Are they reasonably good about keeping track of the free ones? I'd hate to have a family member/guest asked to pay for something at check-in they didn't need to pay...

(Some of the old posts about their computer system being non-functional have me a bit cautious)

Also, do they have any taxes to pay? I paid transit occupancy tax for a recent stay at Worldmark Anaheim, so it seems likely Peacock Suites would be the same. If so, is that paid at checkin as well?

I am pretty sure I have paid occupancy tax, it's on the bill at check out. Also I remember about 4-5 years ago paying housekeeping after several stays that use year. They told me about it at check in. That was at Desert Rose.

Last year stayed at Kona Coast Resort and Holua, no housekeeping that I recall.

Peacock Suites has no occupancy tax; however, they do charge about $10.50 per day with tax for valet parking. It's up to you whether you want to pay the valet a tip for retrieving your car. Some do, some don't.
