Thanksgiving in Williamsburg?

Considering going to Williamsburg for a few days Thanksgiving week, including Thanksgiving day. Will have the kids so I'll look for a resort with an indoor pool. Is this a hard time to trade into through RCI? I'm guessing that there would be some restaurants open for a traditional Thanksgiving feast? If anyone has visited during this timeframe in the past, I'd like to hear your experiences.

Are you thinking about Thanksgiving 2008? I don't have a unit in my RCI account ,but this is what I'm seeing on II checking in the weekend before(11/21-11/23)

Williamsburg Plantation
Manor Club Sequel(studios)
Estates at King Creek
Westgate
Greensprings

I'm sure most restaurants are serving some sort of Thanksgiving meal(they do at WDW, but we usually go for the regular menu).

Yes, I'm thinking of this Thanksgiving week 2008. I agree, there has to be a few places serving the feast. I'm not sure if it's HIGH time there during this period but I think the weather would be fine for walking around the historic parts. The wife will want to chill and do some studying, I plan to take my girls to the pool and around town, but neither of us plan on cooking on the day !!

Been there at Thanksgiving several years ago. Outlet Malls for black friday shopping is a science there. THere is a movie multiplex and the studios always seem to release a big kid film for Thanksgiving.

Wyndham Kingsgate has an indoor pool. And a kid archade includeled in some resort activity fee.

My sister's in-laws do their family vacation there almost every year. Colonial Williamsburg is too much for me and the kids - $$$$ and shoppes algore. :eek:

since you are on the subject of Williamsburg, what time of year would be best to visit? Thanksgiving, Spring Break, or the first week in June? I don't want to visit when the weather if hot. How is the first week in June?

Williamsburg can be pretty hot the first week of June, but the humidity won't be as bad as in July or August.

Thanksgiving will usually be pretty nice, 50s/60s during the day. Could be a little wet, but no real snow potential. The problem with Thanksgiving is that Busch Gardens and Watercountry aren't open.

Spring break in March is miserable. Cold, very wet, possible snow. April could be beautiful with temps in the 70s or windy/rainy/50. It snowed in early April two years ago.

The best weather months without a doubt are May and October. Late September and early November are great also.

I literally just got back from Williamsburg today and it was very hot and humid all week. Next week will see 100 degrees on some days with heat index readings above 110.

Yes, that was Easter weekend. We were there, checked in Good Friday, woke up Saturday morning to a few inches of snow and still coming down. Needless to say we didn't get to Busch Gardens that weekend as planned. :bawl:

Lovely - we go the last week in August. We wanted to go in the summer after our disastrous trip (above) b/c we really want to go to Busch Gardens. But I HATE the humidity. Unfortunately, I work at a middle school so we are tied to a school schedule. :(

It snowed when we were in Park City UT this June! I had checked the weather before we left and had some long sleeve shirts and jackets packed.

I've been to Williamsburg around Spring Break(business conference at Kingsmill a few years ago) and the weather was beautiful. But that was around mid April.

Spring break here is usually the first week of April. I think Thanksgiving maybe the best time to try. We are tied to school schedules also.

We were there first week of June year before last. It was hot but not any hotter than it was here in Ohio. Thing is, school is still in down there so there are shorter hours at the water park and Busch Gardens. Some of the water slides weren't open because they didn't have the staff yet. The trade off is, the lines weren't very long. When we did the history things, there were hoards of school buses and kids on field trips. My guess is that there would be any time of year but I figure the most would be just before school is out for them. We had a great time and really enjoyed it.

I've always wanted to go and see Colonial Williamsburg decorated for the holidays!

Thanksgiving at Williamsburg

My family spent Thanksgiving at Williamsburg and loved it; one thing you must see is the Christmas Light dispaly at Newport News City Park. It is a short drive and well worth the trip. There are many eating establishments open also.

From reading these posts, am I correct to assume that the Christmas lights in Williamsburg will be on display and lit up during Thanksgiving? I was thinking they wouldn't be until the week or two after.

Only in parts. Colonial Williamsburg doesn't officially have theirs until Grand Illumination.
