Have a 8 hour layover in PHL this Sunday. Is it doable to go and see the Liberty Bell? Should I cab it? Any suggestions?

Absolutely. We did it in 4 hours once. There is s train/subway from the airport to Liberty Square. The biggest hassle is going through security especially if you have carry ons. We put all our stuff in lockers & it worked out very well.

Do Airports Still Have Lockers ?

We put all our stuff in lockers & it worked out very well.
Didn't the train stations & airports & bus stations all get rid of their coin-operated lockers as a security measure ?

You know, to keep the bad guys from putting time bombs in lockers set to go off after the bad guys were long gone.

Been researching since I posted. Correct, there are NO LOCKERS. We will each have a rolling suitcase and a backpack.

We are thinking of springing for a cab. Then take turns watching the suitcases.

You can do it! Take the SEPTA train from the airport to the Market East station, which is in center city Philly. You will be underground, so the key is to find your way up to street level. That will be around 12th and Market streets, and all you have to do is walk or take a cab to 6th & Chestnut streets (8 blocks). You can see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall where the constitution was signed since they are right across the street from each other. Then get your butt back down to the airport ASAP! Remember to pay tribute to Willy Penn on the top of City Hall!! Just promise Betsy Ross and Ben Franklin you will pay tribute to them next time.

depending on your airline. you could check your rolling bag (if they don't charge you $15 for your next flight as you leave the airport.
You might just ask at the customer service counter if they would hold your bag for you? It's worth asking to not have to hassle with it.

Be aware that the transit police just went on strike, and friend, you don't want to be there without the police. Take the cab, it's cheaper than your life.
