Checked out today from the Westin Lagunamar. Fabulous resort. This was a non-Starwood Interval exchange, so forgive me if this is not the correct forum. I was charged a $15 something "hospitality tax" for every night. I had not been aware there was going to be an extra tax but the clerk insisted there was. So now I'm asking the experts. Is there supposed to be $15 nightly hospitality tax. I know Hawaii has the occupancy tax but wasn't aware that Mexico had something similar. Or as it just because it's a Westin.

Thanks for your help.

No hospitality tax to the best of my memory if you are booking via Interval or Starwood Vacation Network. You should also check your II certificate. I was last there a year ago.

The state of Quintana Roo, MX levied this tax not too long ago to get back some of the tax revenue lost with timeshare reservations. I remember paying it unfortunately on an SVO reservation at WLR in December. Since I own there it was also advised on our 2015 MF statement.

It should not be $15.00 but around $5.75.

Tax was 50.98 pesos/night back in January

Not sure why you were charged $15/night. When we stayed in our 1BR unit in January (we are owners), the tax was 50.98 pesos/night. That's about $3/night at current exchange rates.

Feel very sheepish now. Looked at my bill again. I was looking at the exchange rate not the total in pesos. And it was around 54 pesos per night or about $4.
