I was reading about dinner cruises but they require a jacket and we aren't going to bring dressy clothes for vacation. How about the lunch or siteseeing tours. Are they worth it? Which company did you cruise with?

Rolling. Rolling. Rolling On The River.

We enjoyed a Potomac River dinner cruise some years ago that departed from the waterfront in Alexandria VA. The boat did & U-turn up near Georgetown, then cruised back to the dock near Old Town. We were guests of a real estate broker with whom we had done some repeat business. It was coat & tie, as I recall.

It's a shame the men won't have a jacket. The evening cruises are well worth the effort. Our favorite is the Dandy out of Alexandria. http://www.dandydinnerboat.com/

For no meals, just a tour of the river, try the Admiral Tilp at the base of Cameron Street in Alexandria, at the City docks. http://www.potomacriverboatco.com/admiraltilp.php

You said that you didn't want to bring dressy clothes for vacation, but you are coming into a cosmopolitan area. In order to feel comfortable, I would recommend that the women have dressy slacks and tops or a dress, and that the men have jackets and collared shirts.
