We travel to NY frequently and I was wondering what the differences are between these locations. If I was to want to buy a timeshare at one, which would be the best to buy? We want to have 2 bathrooms. Also, is a penthouse worth getting, assuming I find a decent resale price?

NY stay

Hi Lisa, I'm from NJ and work in Midtown NYC. I drive by both the Manhattan Club and the Hilton down 56th St. every day. As far as location, there is no difference between these two as they are literally a block away from each other. As I understand it, the Hilton VC is on the upper floors of the Hilton Hotel building. I've never stayed there but have stayed at the Manhattan Club. Its very nice, but I know the developer has had legal issues with sales and availability. Probably best to avoid the MC right now.
Either spot is a great convenient location within walking distance or easy subway ride of much of the NYC top visitor spots.
If you want any more info about the area, let me know.

We stayed at both the Manhattan Club & west 57th last month. The Manhattan club style and rooms are a bit dated but they have a partial kitchen, which we need. The HGVC on West 57th was a gorgeous modern building with a fabulous bathroom but only a mini fridge and coffee maker. They are only a 1 1/2 blocks away from each other. So both are in a great location with easy access to public transportation.

Questions about a Manhattan club rental--
At one time I remember hearing about a $30/day resort fee? Do they still do that?
If I rent from an owner do I have access to the Club Lounge for breakfast and cocktails?

I think there is a $30/day resort fee if you trade in through RCI, or at least through RCI points? I think all guests have acess to the lounge, but they charge for breakfast and cocktails, I believe. I was just there over Mother's Day weekend and went up to the 26th floor to check out the lounge and there was a continental breakfast for $14.95.
