We had a beautiful flight on Hawaiian Air FC except for daughter who can handle Economy. FA's very attentive, plentiful drinks, breakfast good. Had a good rate with Thrifty: $719 for three weeks full size Ford Fusion. Got the rate about a month ago with Discount Maui Car Rental.
Arrived at WKORV about 1:30 pm, dropped bags off and headed to Paradise Grill for lunch. Checked in at 3:15 pm. Got a pretty good room: 2517, a studio for first week. You pretty much have to get 5th floor or above for good view with OV. I actually made the reservations 9 Jan. 2014 by calling from Florence, Italy to get that 9 am slot. The automated system started that night I believe.
Resort is 99 percent full according to check-in. Looks beautiful. Weather perfect.
Did the Safeway run. An easy $200. Leaving for WillieK Bluesfest around 4. Along with WillieK; who is stunningly good from rock, blues to opera; Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, Taj Mahal, Steven Tyler, Mick Fleetwood, and other more local talent will be performing.
This is our 9th trip to WKORV. Purchased in 2002 and first trip in 2004.

Envy you! Keep us updated please.

We have been so fortunate to have stayed twice on excellent exchanges to 2 bedroom units at WKORV. We loved everything about this resort.

Enjoy

We are on Monday of second week. Highlights have been whale watching with Captain Steve. Went first thing at 730 am. Weather was much better than last January. I recommend getting the bench seat up front for two. You can see both sides quickly and don't have to stand up to see on opposite side. Raft allows for great speed to get to whales. Last time whale went right under. The ride is great fun by itself.
Saturday did our annual Mamas Fish House for lunch. It was jammed. Don't try without reservation. The food was terrific. Atmosphere, service, and view a delight. Entrees can run to $50. Be prepared to spend $80-$100 pp. You will love it though.I just happened to be looking at a lady at the next table when she took her first bite. She slumped forward, closed her eyes, and then leaned all the way back and mouthed "wonderful" to her partner.
My wife ran the Maui Oceanfront Marathon again on Sunday. It is quite an accomplishment.
Last night stopped by the Wine Palette at Kapalua. Wonderful wine and small fantastic plates: dates wrapped in bacon, brie and raspberries in flaky crust, steak skewers. They had a guitarist. Another wonderful evening.
Tomorrow Mulligans for the Willie K Dinner Show in Wailea. Wednesday Betty's Cafe at 505 Front St. at 5 pm for lobster special. A bonus is you get to see the Feast at Lele for free if you get a view seat early. Saves you $125 pp. I took my family to the Feast at Lele a few years ago and it was really good, just so expensive. Nowadays we do the Sheraton because young kids are free or $10 if you get preferred seating which I highly recommend.
We will be heading to Lanai on Friday for two nights at the Lanai Hotel. Rented a jeep for Saturday for 24 hrs. Unfortunately, may rain which will limit off road.
Personally, I have never seen the resort so crowded. On Saturday the check-in was jammed. The Vacation Kick-off must have had 100 people.
It has been very beautiful nonetheless. Enjoy!

After hearing about your whale watching trip we may have to go next time in January.

Keep having fun and hope it doesn't rain on you on Lanai.

Lana'i was so much different. The Hotel Lana'i is in the small city. It is very much like a country inn. It is nicely located at the end of Dole Park which is a large rectangular area with restaurants and shops on the sides. The weather was rainy from our second afternoon on. It got cold and windy as well. We did manage to go to Manele Bay for a wonderful lunch and walk Hulopoe Beach. Feeling a little bold, we took our jeep as far as the pavement would allow toward Shipwreck Beach. You come to a left turn that is just dirt, ruts, rocks, and mud. We pressed on and had a fun off-road time while the rain had stopped. We made it to the beach and made some friendships with others who had tried.
At night we ate at Pele's . It is quite good emphasizing Italian. The Blue Ginger was less good.
The Lodge at Koele is closed for tourists as the workers on a portion of the sister property, Manele Bay, are staying there. When Manele finishes, the Lodge will have more work on it. The golf course is being improved.
I really recommend stopping at the Historical Society which is close to the Hotel Lana'i. Simon gives a good retelling of Lana'i history.
The trip on the Lana'i Ferry was an adventure coming back. High winds and whitecaps made a roller coaster ride back. Lots of nervous laughter.
Back at WKORV now. Using my WLR star options for a one bedroom here for another five nights. Got room 3510 which actually has a good view. I was concerned because I could only make the reservations 8 months out.
Coming back to Maui was like leaving a quiet country house in Lana'i and arriving at an amusement park, Front Street. So different. Make sure you give Lana'i a couple of nights if you can.
Heading to Kula Lodge for breakfast/lunch tomorrow and then to Haleakala. I don't do the sunrise up there anymore.
