What do you think? I would be happy to have one of 3 resorts on the beach as a home resort. Needless to say I don't see them for sale very often if ever. Should I hold out for one of them and pay whatever it takes to get or just settle for somewhere else with enough points to go to the place I want.
Thanks for the input.

Buy where you want to go.
First, I would suggest a search on e-bay. You can also try redweek, Craigs list, or the Tug classified ads. Be patient until the resort you want comes available at the price you are comfortable with

What are the 3 resorts in question and when do you want to go to them, may be helpful. As well, what points systems are you considering.

Utah and beaches don't seem to be compatible.

The likely answer is you should buy at the place for the time you want to go, but there are enough exceptions that more details should be given.

Prices are really depressed right now - have you looked on ebay?

Can you post the names of the resorts and the season you are looking at?

The 3 resorts I would like to go to year after year would be See the sea San Diego, Capri by the sea San Diego ( not quite as nice) and lastly wyndham Oceainside pier resort.(38 mile drive to San Diego, but a nice place on its own)
We love San Diego and Pacific beach especially. I need a 2 beedroom that sleeps 6-8. Summer months would be best, but we would go anytime from say May thru October.
I have looked on Ebay and so far none of these have been there even once.
All 3 of these are RCI points compatable. My relatives have RCI points but Trying to reserve then thru RCI hasn't been easy. They say they aren't available. If I were to buy for points I would try harder to get in, checking exactly 10 months early, etc.

With the changes RCI are going thru in November I am a bit concerned that I might get stuck with a timeshare somewhere that was not worth what I would pay, or was not worth the points it was when I bought it. I also wonder if it will get even harder to go to higher demand places.

I would not buy Wyndham if you are just interested in using the points at the same resort every year. The timeshare itself would be very easy to buy (do not even have to buy wyndham points at Oceanside) the annual fees would be a lot.

I am not sure how hard using wyndham points to trade back into Oceanside Pier would be summer weeks.
