What insurance do you use?? I have used SkyMed, which has an affiliation with Royal Resorts. It basically sends you home. Recently in Cancun a woman had a condition which did not allow her to fly on a normal airplane, and it cost her 27,000 dollars, not pesos to get home. Their price is 299 to send you to a hospital near your home.

Any other suggestions or comments welcome.

I have signed up for this: http://www.goodsamtravelassist.com/ It's $80 a year for evacuation and repatriation and little else. We've never had a claim (knock wood), so I can't vouch for that, but the reviews seem OK. You don't need to own an RV, but it does return your vehicle home if you are stricken ill or injured on the road.

If I have a prepaid tour, I use Travel Guard. I don't remember if evac is included or an additional cost option since my health insurance covers it.

Cheers

I use Allianz through Alaska Airlines when I buy my airfare. The evacuation/repatriation benefit is only $50,000 per person. I always thought that this is more than enough.

I am looking for an annual policy...

The Good Sam policy covers immediate family for a year. Seems like a good plan to me for the price- if you have your own health insurance or are willing to self-insure.

We use Diver Dan--and we know people who have had to use it from Australia and from the Phillipines, so we know it works and does, indeed cover everything. They coordinate with the doctors where you are and fly you out when the doctors say you are ready to go.

The cost is ridiculously low: family plan for a year is about $50.00. You don't even sign up for it. Go to the Diver Dan site and join. By paying the yearly fee to join, you get their magazine and you automatically have evacuation insurance; it isn't sold separately. It applies any time you are 50 miles from home.

Sounds too good to be true, but we absolutely know they are wonderful.

We bought Emergency Assistance last year. Thankfully, we have not had to use it, but we feel good having it for ourselves and in case my elderly mother has a problem while we are gone. We bought ours through AAA.
