We will be spending the week before July 4 at Harbor Landing Condominiums at Vineyard Haven. I'd like to thank everyone for the suggestions you've already given us (especially booking the car ferry asap).

I'd like to ask for your advice about:

1. Can you recommend a place to rent bikes for the week.

2. Can you recommend a place to rent a kayak. Looking to go either at Sengekontacket Pond and/or Lagoon Pond.

3. If we want to take the ferry for a day trip with bikes to Chappaquidick, do we have to make reservations in advance.

4. Any suggestions about a restaurant for a romantic dinner. We'll have a car and it will be close to our 39th anniversary. We like all kinds of food.

5. Any suggestions about restaurants that won't break the bank.

6. Is there a beach/bar/restaurant you'd recommend for sunset

Thanks for your help.

Here are some resources for your first 4 questions.

1. http://www.mvol.com/directory/transportation/bike_rentals/ The bike places are all about the same. Not sure what your preferences are, so do take a look. Since you're in VH, you may want to book there and it's very close to where you're staying. I'd call them waaay before your vacation to reserve.

2.http://www.mvol.com/directory/boating/kayaking/#2876 I haven't canoed or kayaked on MV for many years, but here's a resource.

3.No reservations for the "On Time III" . Just get in line and go.

For a romantic dinner, my Ex and I used to here, but there's no "view":
http://www.letoile.net/ or Le Grenier, but no view.

If you're driving or biking (a long haul from Vineyard Haven) Larsen's is a very casual, simple fish place with good lobstah rolls in Menemsha http://www.larsensfishmarket.com/

You are right near the "Black Dog Tavern" and I suggest that for lunch, dinner, brunch, breakfast .... any meal. Get a table near the window in back. It's nautical-rustic, but good sandwiches, etc. Good bakery, too, in front. Fun stores in back. https://www.theblackdog.com/Tavern.html

I like the Harbor View hotel in Edgartown for lunch and then a big Arnold Palmer on the porch looking across to Chappy.

As for restaurants with views, I'll post later, but here's a good listing from MVOL (the local on line tourist info - good site): http://www.mvol.com/directory/restaurants/restaurants/

I'd pack a nice meal (lobster salad, rolls, chips, cole slaw, dessert, beverage) and head out to: http://www.mvautorental.com/blog/bid/149865/Where-to-see-the-Best-Sunset-on-MV

Thanks for the information Beaglemom3
That is what I was looking for.

The Martha's Vineyard online website you mentioned shows the beaches on the island. http://www.mvol.com/beaches/
I understand that only some of the beaches are open to the public.
As for those beaches that are open to the public, is there parking available.
Is parking an issue when going to the beaches in the summer.

Yes, especially around 4th of July. I'd opt for a very early arrival.

I don't know all the beaches by heart or their respective parking situations, so I'll post info below.

As for some of the private type or fee type beaches, I'd call the town offices for day pass information :

Yes, do take your bikes on the Chappy/On Time III ferry and bike around. It's mostly flat, but with some gentle hills, but sandy side roads. Wear lots of sunblock.

There's a small charge for taking your bikes. The trip takes about 5 minutes depending on the channel current. Bike & rider round trip is $6. http://chappyferry.com/

Chappy has hardly any facilities, so pack a little food and some liquids. Chappy is sweet, not developed (thankfully), beachy/sandy with scrub oaks.
Go to East Beach, too, over the Dyke Bridge.

http://www.gomarthasvineyard.com/island/beach/east-beach

There's a little old-timey store, but the hours are irregular, here's the info, so you might want to time your visit with their hours: http://marthasvineyard.patch.com/listings/chappy-store-and-service-station

Bike to Cape Pogue. The Trustees of the Reservations have a little place there and you'll find a bathroom, picnic table and vending machine (maybe);
