I have a couple of questions about this resort; 1. The description said that there is parking for only one car per unit. What happens if u have two cars for a two bedroom unit? and 2. Is there a grocery store nearby as we plan to cook most of our meals at the resort. Any helpful information about this resort will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim

You might want to call the resort and ask both of those questions.

Thanks for the info.

Just thinking it would be quicker than waiting for responses.

I tried my first trick of using Google maps to see what grocery stores were in the area. I couldn't find much of anything.

Since the resort itself would probably be the best point of reference for the parking, you could make one call and get both questions answered.

So, if you didn't like my answer, sorry.

There is a Whole Foods about two blocks away. If you have a car, there is a more mainstream grocery store within a few minutes drive on Duke Street. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Wyn...xe6a11bb31ffa4dc6!2m2!1d-77.06007!2d38.804148

Giant Grocery Store 1.5 miles away on Duke Street: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Wyn...18d64b8b091d6c0d!2m2!1d-77.084147!2d38.809015

Parking is in an underground multi-level parking garage, that is shared with the hotel next door. I'd call OTA and ask how they'd handle the second car. My guess is paying an extra parking fee would do the trick.

There is a free bus/trolly that runs up and down King Street, and King Street Metro station (and parking) is just across the street. Metro will speed you EVERYWHERE you want to go in Washington. Buy a pass at Metro Center or Union Station. If you are seniors, it's a real bargain for getting around. Not too bad if you're paying full freight but seniors are half fare.

You'll regret having a car there. Parking is a major PITA.

Agree. We generally fly into Reagan National and take the Metro to King Street Station, across the street from Wyndham Old Town Alexandria. Parking is underneath the resort and space is limited to a point. Employees and tenants in the others building park there too. There are only so many parking spaces that are market 'Wyndham Guests.' If it's a busy time of the year you may only get one space no matter how many cars in your party. Fly if possible and use public transportation while in DC. The trolley runs up and down King Street every 20 minutes.

Walgreens and CVS on King Street are also good options for your basics and for milk, soda, beer, wine, etc.

We own at OTA and go every year. The Whole Foods is a short walk and is big with a nice selection. They also have a hot and a cold buffet that are both good if you want to take something back to the room but don't feel like cooking! Parking IS pretty tight there, if possible I'd leave the car at home or at least make do with one. We usually drive since it's a short drive for us, but once we get to OTA we don't move the car until it's time to go home.
Enjoy! it's a great place :)

What timeframe are you going to be in DC? The area/buildings from Wyndham to the river/harbor are very historic - preUSA. and have shops and restaurants along the way. George Washington and other great American patriots frequented a tavern, now a restaurant (name slips me), off King Street towards the river/harbor.

A free trolley runs to and from the harbor. The harbor has shops and restaurants. There is a torpedo factory, now a museum there. It's free and worth seeing. A water taxi runs from the harbor across the Potomac to National Harbor. Great for shopping and restaurants too.

Parking is very tight. Last time we went our car got badly scraped. Put in a claim with the parking people, but of course nothing came of it. Highly recommend Hard Times chili. one block walk and the best chili on the east coast. they have been their for over 30 years.:)

Another vote for Hard Times...we love it and go at least once every year. It's just a short walk down King Street.

We own at Old Town and frequent there several time a year and never heard of Hard Times. I love chili and will defiantly check it out when I'm there during Memorial Day week. Hoe far down on king Street?

Another vote for Hard Times. If you opt for the chili and have, shall we say, a sensitive digestive tract, you may want to ask for yours to be served 'dry'.

I liked that hard Times had a chili sampler, where they provided taster-sized bowls of (I think) four different types of chili. Made it easier to decide which we wanted with our regular meal. It was really good, too.

Hard Times also has great burgers and is very family friendly. It kind of looks like an old time neighborhood dive from the outside but we were totally surprised when we went in and saw all the families there. We asked the waitress, who by the way had been there 30 years, about all the families and she told us most of them were locals that had been coming for years. Lots of foot traffic from the local neighborhoods.

When I stayed in Old Town last October, I found out that metered parking is free if you have a handicapped license plate or placard. My sister and I found that out after we had fed the meters several times :bawl:

Another vote for Hard Times. I haven't been in the one in Old Town but frequent the one in Rockville.

I like Teaism across the street from Trader Joes. It's an Asian style teahouse. Try the okonomiyaki. It was almost as good as what I ate in Osaka

We're at Old Town a couple times a year and always get a second parking pass. Our daughter lives in Arlington and we just tell them we need a second parking pass for when she visits throughout the week. We've NEVER had any problem at all.

In addition to Hard Time's there is a great southern food place called King Street Blues. The atmosphere is something to behold and the food is grand... if you like BBQ & southern food. It's a half block off King St on a cross street, 112 North Saint Asaph Street
