Buying a resale points advice

I am buying 660K points at ocean walk later this month. We have split half of the points every year for the last 4 years with the owner. I offered to purchase the entire deed as they are not using their half any longer. What are the perks that I will lose buying resale?? VIP, only able to use points at deeded resort.?? Every time I have inquired to Wyndham sales I get a laundry list of reasons why it's a bad idea, but the reasons are always different. It seems they are just doing their job as salesman, but I wanted to see if anyone else has some facts on the best way to handle the transfer.

Thanks

Wyndham will lie to you in a heartbeat. The Wyndham sales weasels don't receive a commission if you buy resell. The perks for buying resell is that you'll save tens of thousands of dollars. The cons of buying from Wyndham is that it will cost you tens of thousands of dollars. You can use your points at any Wyndham Vacation Resort property.

Is th account currently VIP Gold?

Sounds like you are sharing an account with another owner, but it's in their name. Most likely the account is a Gold VIP account. With that come some very nice benefits (last minute discounts and upgrades). Are you related in any way to the owner?

I don't know what you can do, if they aren't a relative, to transfer into your name and keep the the VIP Gold benefits. Others here might have some suggestions.

Otherwise, if it's someone you know well (lots of trust involved here), is added your name to the deed and you agreeing to pay the maintenance fees going forward an option?

After confirming it's VIP Gold, I would look into options to retain that status, before transferring it, having it become a "resale" account, and losing those benefits.

Did they buy it from a Wyndham sales weasels or are they resell points? Either way you'll have a $299 Wyndham transfer fee cost. Is it a good deal? How much per 1000 points? Unless you want ARP other resells may be cheaper in both cost and maintenance fees. A little difference is maintenance fee costs add up over the years.

Welcome to the club...

My friend/owner bought the points resale around 2010. Somehow he retained the VIP gold statues. We are trying to retain the perks instead of shedding them in the transfer process.
Maint fees run around $6/per 1000

I'm no expert but couldn't you just add your name to the account by paying the transfer fee then change all the contact info and passwords so only you have access?

Even just putting your name on the contract may trigger them to remove the gold status. Everytime Wyndham takes a closer look at a contract, including any transfers or even owner updates, whether in room or down on the sales floor, someone may notice that unearned VIP is on the contract and can take steps to remove it.

I think your changes are better than even that VIP will remain while you are just being added but I think your chances of retaining gold when your friend is removed from the contract is almost zero.

Im almost sure the gold status will be maintained if you buy a small contract and put both names on the deed. Then change the address and email etc and you pay mf. The risk to your friend is what happens if you die first, and what happens if you stop paying

If I was you I would go for this deal. If i was your friend, I wouldnt

Why not just take it and lose the gold. It will be a shame to loe the VIP, but its a lot cleaner transaction, with no questions

depends on why he wants the points. If for personal/family use it's one thing. If for rentals, it's hard to make money with no vip discount unless you can score bike week or race week (and my bike week reservations haven't been the guaranteed sellers they once were).

If he is a really close friend and trusts you, the best solution is to arrange to leave it in his name, pay his MF and use his points. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
