Nope...from my recollection the ski hills close at the end of March and even then the last few weeks may show rocks and grass.

Smuggs is unlikly to be open then. Stowe or Sugarbush may be, Killington will be to some extent but you will be skiing Concrete, Oatmeal, Corn, whatever you want to describe it as.

Not the 2014 spring break

In 2013 spring break, it landed on the last week of March and the skiing condition was great. all trail fully snow covered and no ice. 2014 spring break is going to land in the first 2 weeks of April and the mountain properly closed by then.

Come to Colorado or Utah -- there is always plenty of good skiing available up until closing day (mid-April for most resorts).

That week is in the lowest-cost Quiet Season at Wyndham Pagosa and Wyndham Durango.

Estimated closing date for Wolf Creek Ski Area is April 6, 2014; they run out of skiers before they run out of snow. There will still be good cross-country skiing at the top of the pass well after the ski area closes.

Spend a few days at Pagosa skiing and soaking in the hot springs, then spend a few days using Durango as a base for a day trip through the most beautiful part of Colorado to Silverton, or a trip to Mesa Verde, or a day trip to Four Corners.

Vail Ski Resort will be open until April 20, 2014:

It will be Spring Fever in Breckenridge March 17 - April 14, 2014:

Springalicious in Steamboat Springs, CO April 6-14, 2014

It is a little more expensive High Season at the Wyndham Steamboat Springs during that time.

Does Smuggs still have old antiquated lifts. We haven't skied there in a dozen years and gave up because they had only slow doubles.....no high speed quads let alone a gondola or tram! Good hills though!
And as I recall, our last time at Smuggs was the last week in March, and conditions really deteriorated over the week. Several runs were closed by the end of the week. I don't think they run much into April.

Yes- same lifts. But- brand new high tech snow making machines! The resort still keeps getting praises in SKI magazine for it's skiing and programs.

Yep keeps the whiners who don't like slow lift away. More mountain for the rest of us.

Smuggs has in the last 20 years geared more toward families and has been largely deserted by hard core skiers. As a family of three who used to own two weeks at Smuggs, our son now mid 20's, graduated, and out on his own, was first on skiis at 20 months on Morse. They have a wonderful ski school and as owners were regulars in both winter and summer. He progressed to regional racing in his teens and we sold and moved on. We have great memories of our time there, but my beef about antiquated doubles, was as a family of three we could never ride up together.
