Which buildings at South Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach are the newest? Any tips on unit assignment requests? We have the week starting 2/9/08.

Thanks

South Beach Resort

First of all, I would not recommend South Beach @ Myrtle Beach!!
We were there by way of RCI, and found out when we checked in that they charge RCI exchangers a $45.00 cleaning fee. Owners do not pay this.

If you want to use your wireless computer, there is a $9.95 per day charge, or $49.50 for the week. If you use their computer in the lobby, there is a charge of $4.95 for 30 minutes. Owners have to pay this also.

You are given a card to use to get a pool towel when you go to the pool, and if you fail to return that card at checkout, there is a $20.00 charge. If you fail to return a pool towel there is another charge of $12.00. All of this money grubbing really turned us off.

We were in Bldg G, which fronts, along with Bldg H H, on a side street between Ocean Blvd and 17 Business. There was a lot of street noise at night, particularly in the 2nd bedroom. Buildings A and B seemed to be better situated-close to the club house and the indoor pool-but we did not get a look at the units there. From the exterior, they all look pretty much the same.

I had talked to the Front Desk a week before we checked in and asked if they would consider a unit preference request, and was told "sure, what do you want?" I gave her my request, and she said "no problem." When we checked in, I asked about my preference request, and was told that there was no notation on our reservation. So, it really was "no problem."

The unit was a little above average, but certainly did not make up for the for the other surprises.

I will post a review later.

Just returned from Plantation Resort in Surfside Beach and perhaps all the area resorts use everything as a profit center. I have been to numerous resorts where a "starter pack" of supplies is provided but this is the first that I have seen a price list for acquiring others. Paper towels $1, coffee$.50, decaf$.75, dish soap, tissues....I tried to trade 2 decaf pacs for 3 regular but could only get 2 even though their stated value should have been 2 for 3. Internet costs $25 for week unless you go to the outdoor pool area which is used for the Timeshare presentations or activity center among the arcade games and ping pong. I only had one kitchen trashbag and they were so precious that the price was not quoted on the little card. Apparently they could be obtained only through special negotiations.
