My DD is graduating from college in May and for her graduation gift she would like to go to WDW. Maybe tack on a couple of days at US to see the Harry Potter things if we want to spend the extra bucks. We can get military tickets which is a 4 day pass for $196, can't beat that. This is the last year we can get these tickets since DH and I are going through a divorce.

So I'm having a hard time deciding which Wyndham resort to choose. There will be 2 twenty somethings just graduating from college and 1 middle-aged adult. ;) We are staying 6 days. We will have a car.

For 122k I can get a 2 bedroom OIRC, CP and Star Island. For 172k I can get Reunion (3 bedrooms).

Do you have a favorite among these? I have stayed at CP and BC, but BC is not available for our dates. Do you think it is worth the 50k extra points to stay at Reunion and each of us have our own room and bathroom? The girls are roommates and used to sharing a room. We probably wouldn't be spending much time at the resort with 6 nights and 4 days at the parks.

Thanks in advance!

BC is so big, it seems like there is a good chance cancellations will come by the 14 day mark....

Since your husband is in the military did you look into Disney's Shades of Green Resort?

Was just reading about Shades of Green.

No Magic Express to/from airport.

Yes to EMH.

Yes to getting the Disney buses to the parks.

Rate is based to member's pay grade.

They'll have a car, so they're good on not having the Magic Express.

If Shades of Green is anything like the Edelweiss Resort in Germany, it is essentially a military resort hotel, which means hotel-sized rooms. I don't know if they have the equivalent of 2 or 3 BR units.

Reunion, which has all 3BR units and its own water park, is supposed to be a nice higher-end option.

The nice thing about a 4-day pass is that you can leave in the midday and not feel too bad. That leaves time to relax at the Reunion resort and water park. The extra points come out to about a $40-45/day difference from CP.

No question for me, Reunion all the way. I stayed at Star Island once and did not like it at all. Reunion has the nicest units I've ever stayed in (huge!) and a great pool area with lazy river.

Reunion, is a really nice resort about 6 or so miles from Disney. SI, is an older resort nice, but not the luxurious as reunion. If you could get BC that is my favorite resort especially for Disney visits. Reunion is a close second.

OIRC - quiet and comfortable but minimal facilities and high potential for traffic to/from Disney. If focused on Universal, it's an option but you're not.

SI and CP - a block apart. SI is larger with more resort amenities but variable room layouts and maintenance since it is primarily .managed by another company. Personally, I prefer CP... nice rooms, adequate pools and amenities, lovely landscaping, walk to a few restaurants, not a bad drive to Disney. Parking is easy during the day, may require a bit of walking at night after parks close, but the entire resort is small enough that it's never outrageous.

Reunion - the furthest away from Disney but most of the drive is on I-4 so it takes the same short 15-20 minutes drive to Epcot as it does from SI/CP... IF, and that's a big IF, there is no accident or construction within miles of this stretch of I-4 to cause a major slowdown. Reunion is also in the opposite direction, requiring a longer I-4 drive past Disney to reach Universal, if you decide to go there. This resort is an upscale option with more amenities - terrific for a resort-centric vacation, where you plan on several "resort" relaxation days between park days.

Given the OP's plan to hit the parks for most or all of the days while on vacation (less time at the resort), and possibly visit Universal, I would choose CP personally. That is, if Bonnet Creek doesn't become available. Second to the onsite transportation of DVC, Bonnet Creek is my favorite offsite. Just one more person's opinion here. Hope that helps.

I'm aware of it, but it doesn't make sense for us to pay for a hotel (even discounted) when we have already paid for maintenance fees.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. I will make a reservation at another resort and then keep checking for BC. I think I have 2 RTs for this year.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! DD came up with a good plan that requires a 7 day stay: (Long) drive Friday, check into resort. Sat rest at resort. Sunday-Wednesday at WDW, Thursday rest at resort, Friday check out and drive home. That fits best with my vacation days.

After your comments I was leaning towards Reunion, but it doesn't have availability for those days. It does have a week beginning on Thursday, with a split reservation. So I'm mulling that. I figure why not blow a whole bunch of points as your kid only graduates from college once! But I do want to conserve my points as much as possible since I have two small contracts and my niece graduates next year from the University of Hawaii and I just have to go!

If I don't go with Reunion we will stay at CP.

Thanks again.
