This is a first for me. I had a Wyndham reservation cancelled out of the blue. I have the emailed confirmation from Wyndham. Wyndham found when I made the reservation in the system. Wyndham also found the date it was cancelled but they can't tell me why it was cancelled. According to Wyndham customer care all they can do is refund my points, a big 8,000 points. To me it's the principle, not the points. There isn't a vacancy for the two night 'they' cancelled on me so I have to make other arrangements.

Has anyone ever had a Wyndham reservation cancel out of the blue before? I told customer care that I own the points that made the reservation therefor I own the reservation, but that means nothing to them. Apparently we're just a revenue stream to Wyndham.

Totally, unacceptable!

Please keep us posted ...

How far out was the check in date?
How long ago was the reservation made?
Where their OTHER overlapping reservations at different resort?
Did you call the resort to find out if there was a FIRE or FLOOD issue?

  • Check-in date is May 26th.
  • Reservation was made April 8th.
  • There wasn't an overlapping reservation - it was a just two day get-a-way.
  • No fire or flood - the resort is fully open and operational.

It happens. Keep pushing them for why it was cancelled. Sometimes if you go to cancel one reservation it cancels another.

Only expect the points back (if inside 15 days to check) and a lot of frustration. Anything else should be considered a gift.

They may also suggest you keep checking for cancellations.

If they cannot tell you why it was cancelled, insist they either honor it or make other accommodations for you. The confirmation is evidence of a contract with you. Just giving you your points back does not make you whole. They probably will not do anything for you other than give your points back. If that is all they do, than I would also complain to your states consumer protection agency. If they get enough complaints they may do something eventually.

Happened to me with a live agent

I was talking with an agent, and he rushed me through and wasn't listening and accidentally cancelled my Beachwalk reservation for New Years. Naturally someone swooped in and grabbed it. Talked to Owner Care and they put me in charge with the assistant for the head of reservations. They reinstated my reservation and even customized it to my liking because it was their fault. So something can definitely be done.

This was a matter of principle for me. It never happened to me prior. I check and track my confirmations on a calendar with confirmation numbers. I can just imagine someone traveling across the country for a family vacation with children and finding out at check-in that there is not a reservation on file for them. My suggestion is for everyone to watch and track their confirmation. If it can happen to me, it can happen to others...

Easier said than done, if you have a lot of reservations. It's annoying that you can only view 10 at a time in "live view" mode. The offline mode pulls them all into one page, but does not provide detailed information (type of unit, etc.)

Please keep us updated on what response they give you regarding how and when your reservation was canceled. There should be a record of it that they may have to do a system audit on to retrieve.
