People can be stupid! I used to love to watch lightning until I moved to Florida. It is intense here. Yesterday I watched a jetskier (on the intracoastal) towing another guy with a thunder and lightning storm was approaching. Idiots!

SW Florida, (my home) is the lightning capital of the world. we have storms every day somewhere in the county and they can come up with almost no warning. Its not unusual to see lightning and hear the thunder on a sunny day. (at least its sunny where you are) Dont blame the kids that got hit, they may have been heading home when it happened

Last month I was at the Disney Boardwalk, and had the opportunity to hear a family argue with the Disney boat crew because they stopped running the Friendship boats between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. I couldn't help but say "Isn't it nice that Disney has sense enough to keep your dumb ass off a steel boat during a lightning storm?!". They looked at me, and I could see the lightbulb suddenly go on over their heads.

Some people will never get it. I retired from GTE Line Crew. We ran many studies throughout Central Florida due to the extreme likely hood of summer lightning storms. The Central Florida area from Coast to Coast is/has been known for years as most dangerous area in Florida for lightning strikes. We were taught, "If you could hear thunder, you could be struck by lightning." It can reach out 10 miles ahead of a storm or can still be dangerous when you think storm has passed. Pay attention the risk can be high. I have had my share of close calls.

How sad.:(
Yeah lightning is no joke.

My brother was struck by lightning at his job at the airport.
Luckily he survived but OSHA got out there real quick and changed things after that.
Before that his employer was making them work in the storm to get those planes out faster. :annoyed:

the one that survived the strike has no insurance, they are doing fundraisers.
