I am going to get a little money, and considering one more Timeshare to balance out my options. We live in No Cal, and like to go to Tahoe, Hawaii, and I trade often for other places. Currently I have 1) Many WM points (don't need more), 2) 1BR 3400 PT Hilton Flamingo, 3) large Shell points account (use for SF and local stays in Napa-and Hawaii), and a 4) South African 2 BR, only use to trade (lowish TPU). Now, this is what I'm considering:
1). Nothing-use the money for other things,
2). Trade my 3400 hilton and get a higher point week (somehow I got on EBay bid). Considering EOY Kingsland.
3). Consider a Marriott in Tahoe -for use and trade.
4). Other options I haven't considered.

Advice anyone??

If you have consumer debt, like credit cards with high interest rates, I'd pay on them. :hi:

Nope, at a sweet moment of little debt. Can give to my kids for college, but want something I wouldn't buy w/o having a little extra coming in.

I think you have MORE than enough timeshares. MORE timeshares is MORE ongoing debt via the MF costs. The ever increasing MF burden.

I would invest your "little money" into your retirement savings. Your conservative retirement savings.

1. use the money for other things

things that I would personally consider spending it on:
- paying down/off the low interest loans (don't have any high interest ones or credit card debt)
- savings
- home renovation
- new car or RV
- massive once in a lifetime vacation like a cruise around the world

I'd vote for a home renovation project or
Add to retirement savings or
Pay into a medical savings account or
Buy your wife a nice piece of jewelry she'd love
Possibly a trip to somewhere you've always wanted to go but couldn't justify the cost of

No timeshares
No new car and certainly
No RV

Unlike everyone else who just want to be kill joys I'll be more open minded. The real question is do you find yourself having time when you want to go to a timeshare but are out of points/tpu's/etc if often look, otherwise other things.

But I Got to ask why do you have a south African ts if you are only getting low tpus for it.

Depending how much you are paying in mf I can see an argument for selling and upgrading the hgvc to something more mf efficient, provided you weren't planning on doing it though the developer. But I wouldn't do an eoy Kingsland, I have an eoy in hgvc and I find it very limiting given their system. I would go with ey less points say 4800 or 7k.

Wouldn't do the Marriott since wm southshore is right across the street and unless you are looking for peak season you can trade into the Marriott with your wm.

Depending on how "little", or big that extra money is, I'd probably go with Disney DVC points. There is always a healthy resale market so if you ever do need to sell for other things, you can. Points rent well also, at more than mf's so if you have extra in a year thats always an option as well.

I would disagree with the statement that they are across the street and remotely the same type of resorts

Never had a trade come through for Marriott in SLT when limiting to prime summer,

I would Imagine Platinum Ski weeks don't ever make it out of the Marriott preference window either.

I have to agree with those who recommend NOT buying more timeshares. You have plenty to vacation with now since there are always rental deals through owners or the exchange companies, bonus weeks, "extra vacations" and all sorts of ways to get additional discounted weeks. In shoulder seasons you can often get a week cheaper than maintenance fees, so unless you're buying something prime like an ocean front unit that you can't get any other way, why buy more and be locked into more maintenance fees?

OK for a completely different option

You could buy Monarch Grand points with DRI

The Monarch Grand collection by DRI has resorts in SoCal, Palm Springs, Tahoe and Mexico.

The MFs are reasonable and we have made great trades with II with our points. You can PM me about getting them for free.

I would go with #1 or #3. Are you already using up everything you own and still have more money/time for vacations?

#1 because I think you have enough timeshares and ability to trade for other stuff in every exchange company. You can buy getaways in II - they have really good stuff in there if you remember to look often. You may pay more or less than MFs at a resort, but in the long run, you'll probably save over being an owner anywhere.

#3 because if you visit Lake Tahoe often and Hawaii often, trading a Marriott lockout could be a value for you. You'd need to research all that. You could buy EOY Marriott Platinum lockout and trade each side towards something else. Basically, getting 2 vacations for the one unit, but is it worth it? Do you like Marriott timeshares? I've found them to be disappointing overall compared to my HGVC, Shell and WM.

I like VegasBella's ideas above.

Before you do or buy anything, get your estate papers in order. Wills, living will, healthcare proxy or POA. See your lawyer for recommendations.

I know it isn't sexy, doesn't sparkle, won't quicken your pulse thinking about using it, but you will sleep better knowing your wishes will be carried out.
