We will be going to Hilton Head mid February, myself, my sister (in our 50s), my 75 year old mother and my 18 year old niece. We are thinking of taking a trip to Charleston and another to Savannah and also to enjoy HH. Any suggestions as to must sees, etc. during our week long stay would be appreciated.

Is Charleston doable in one day, or should we plan to stay overnight?

Thanks

Big Matt

Charleston is a two hour drive without traffic so factor five hours with parking, etc. for the round trip.

I love Charleston. You can stay a week in Charleston and still not see everything including the surrounding areas.

Having said that, Savannah is only an hour away and offers a lot of things that Charleston does, but not as many and to me is more manageable. Savannah is a great day trip and maybe two if you are into the historic stuff.

Frankly, I love Hilton Head and never even consider going to either Charleston or Savannah when I'm there because there is so much to do on the Island. When I first went there I did the Savannah side trip, but I think it would be better to do both Savannah and Charleston as individual trips and just stayed on island and maybe go to Beaufort.

I have also found seven days too short of a time to consider going off-island.

I agree.

If everyone can walk a leisurely mile, I would recommend Savor the Low Country Restaurant & History tour.

We had been to Hilton Head at least a dozen times prior and learned some history that we weren't aware of and visited several restaurants that we had never been to before. That evening, we joined up with another couple from the tour and had dinner at one of the restaurants that we had visited earlier. Steve, the owner, is very genuine, and his staff and chef are the best. The four of us ended up sitting around after closing and enjoyed conversation, as well as wine and desserts, with Steven and his staff.

The tour was very enjoyable and Alice (the Founder) is very nice and down-to-earth.

Another recommendation is Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. We have always enjoyed the shows we have seen. Looks like a great one will be playing while you are there.

Have fun!

I love both Charleston and Savannah, and they are very different. A day trip to Charleston is doable, but quite long. I've done it many times. A day for each leaves you four days on Hilton Head. February is not a busy season, so I think that would work well.

Enjoy!

Thanks so much for all the ideas... we will most likely do Charleston. Depending upon the weather, if it's nice, we'll just relax and enjoy HH, if not we might venture to Savannah.
