I've wanted to try out a dog-friendly resort in VA but I'm wondering if two weeks in same timeshare in Basye would get boring. Also how far is it "really" for a day trip to metro DC, and where would be the best metro station to park in VA to ditch the car for the day & use only public trans? Thx in advance for suggestions!

Yes, I think it would get boring. The timeshares in Basye are pretty plain, and not nearly as nice as they look online. Not that much to do on site, and a limited amount of activities as a tourist. If you want quiet and relaxing, you will get it. Don't know how far it is to DC, but what would you do with the dog?

It is about 120 miles to DC. So with no traffic and stopping at a metro and then taking metro in you are looking at around 2.5 each way. With traffic it could become a 4 hr each way ordeal. So you would be looking to leave a dog in a strange unit for 9-12 hours for a day trip to DC.

There are a decent amount of day trips but just about everything is going to be 1-3 hours away with more things in the 2-3 hour each way. The places you go to for the most part won't allow dogs so your dog might be happier staying at home with a dog sitter or a familiar kennel.

Thanks ladies. I didn't know it would be that far to DC, and I wouldn't want to crate my dog for that much time, and in a timeshare to boot. I'm going to skip this trip idea and release the hold I have on a unit. Thanks so much for posting so quickly!

Bayse

We stayed there about 17 years ago. It was one of our first timeshare stays (we rented). We were there over Memorial Day weekend and found it very boring. Harrisonburg is a fun place to visit, but there isn't much at resort and Bayse in general. Although a trip to DC is doable, it would be a long day.

ps. To each his own, what he likes.
