With all the listings on ebay here at the end of the year i wouldn't mind trying to get in on something else. I currently have HGVC. Anyone have thoughts on a good place to look that has solid exchange value and decent maintenance fees.

We will be traders. Not interested in going the same place. Not even interested in going to the home resort. Would like to trade on II or RCI. Ideas?

Resorts Owned
WKORV, WKV, 2-SDO, 4-Kauai Beach Villas, Island Park Village (Yellowstone), Hyatt High Sierra, Dolphin's Cove (Anaheim)
Where do you want to go with trading?

Do you know about the Starwood to Starwood trading preference in II? You can buy an inexpensive resale like Sheraton Desert Oasis (Scottsdale) or Sheraton Broadway Plantation (Myrtle Beach) for less than $500, and use it to trade into the more expensive resorts through II. I have traded into the new Starwood Kauai resort twice, with an SDO week. Both resorts also trade with RCI - duel affiliated.

Sheraton Desert Oasis Maintenance Fees
EOY Lg. 1 Bdm. - $332.27
EOY 2 Bdm. L/O - $474.20
Sm. 1 Bdm. - $529.91
Lg. 1 Bdm. - $624.54
2 Bdm. L/O - $908.41

Sheraton Broadway Plantation Maintenance Fees
Original Phase

2 Bdm. - $965.28
2 Bdm. L/O - $1,207.87
Palmetto
EOY Dedicated 2 Bedroom - $337.36

Here are the Starwood Resorts.

Qualifier:
Starwood doesn't deposit holiday weeks
Most deposits are off-season
You can't usually trade into Harborside Atlantis or Westin St. John.

I like to get a trader that is a one bedroom to keep down the maintenance fees. I suggest you might want to look at TUG's own bargain section here on the BBS as there are some posted there that are strong traders. The one advantage of a lowered market is that more people can be adventurous and try stuff without a big investment. Funtime

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking about buying something, but have a question.

I currently have an HGVC which gives me an RCI account. The one I want to buy is not through Hilton, but does trade on RCI. How will that work? Would I have to open up a new RCI account? Meaning, I can't deposit into my Hilton RCI account, thus making it more difficult to use points (if I have left over points and need to combine, etc.). Or will it just work with my Hilton account?

Thanks!

HGVC is a cooperate RCI account, so you cannot add any other resort with it. You will use just your HGVC ONLY with your HGVC/RCI account.
You need to open a new, separate RCI account for your new TS.
How about Worldmark? It is a pure point system like HGVC, and can be exchanged through both RCI and II. Worldmark is an excellent trader and MF is safe (there is a cap for MF increase) and it is not deeded ownership, so you don't have to worry about special assessment. You can borrow points from other WM owners for about MF. Credits are good for 2 years. No cost to bank (deposit or rescue in HGVC).
Good luck for your search, it is really tempting market these days...

I see. I was hoping I couldn't combine remainder points into something more. Oh well. I've never looked into Worldmark. I'll check it out.
