My 24 year old daughter and friend want to go to a USA east coast sun destination that is walkable once you get there as they do not want to rent a car.

They are looking for something similar to Waikiki Beach where you can easily walk to the beach, restaurant and night life. As a mother, a safe place is appreciated.

My daughter also has very dry skin so would like a destination with high humidity. This would be for mid June.

I have RCI Points so have the opportunity to go to various destinations.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The East Coast is a sweltering sauna in June, so humidity won't be a problem, however it is VERY late to get an exchange for next month.

I suggest that you go to RCI, and see if you can find anything, and if you do, post the options here, for advice. That will narrow it down.

Wyndham's Ocean Walk, Daytona Beach,

not the beach, but Wyndhams New York resort works, as does Old Town Alexandria (near Washington DC)

Ft Lauderdale Beach Resort --- 15 eating places within a block, several clubs & watering holes within 3 blocks, a large shopping mall (The Galleria) within 4 blocks, Water Taxi within 2 blocks, etc...

6 miles from the Ft Lauderdale Airport.

Summer the breezes come off the ocean (just a short block) to the free beach.

Can get in from RCI, RCI Points or II or VRI or Trading Places...

I think the Florida beaches are the only fly to beaches on the East Coast. The north and mid Atlantic and even the SC beaches are all drive to. Some may not require a car once you are settled in but they are all 1-3 hours from a major airport.

Virginia Beach fits the bill for not needing a car. Norfolk would have a pretty viable airport that is not too far away. I am sure transportation to and from it would be available.

That would be about 19 miles from the airport to Atlantic Ave. Add more to get to the hotel unless you're planning at a place near 21st st.

No, it really is not at all THAT hard to compete with Hawaii .... just live on the east coast .... Hawaii is a real PIA to go to vacation to. ;) Florida is just less than a 2 hour flight.

Hilton Head SC does have a small airport, with taxi service to resorts. The Coligny area, all very walkable, has numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, a movie theater, etc. And a free shuttle for the neighborhood, who you can call for a pick-up, though not sure they'd need that. It's very safe. If they want to go further afield without a car, bicycle paths and rentals abound. There are a few RCI resorts there in the neighborhood, such as Waterside by Spinnaker.

It's tropical and pretty - tho not much on the east coast compares with Hawaii IMO.

While you won't find an RCI exchange there at this date, you can fly to Providence or Boston and be close enough.

There is a beach just a short walk from the center of town (First Beach). You might find rentals because there's a fair amount of timeshare in Newport.

A classic New England resort town--one of my favorite places in the world. If the fabulously wealthy families of America built their summer homes there, they must have been onto something.

Not particularly aimed at you but since when was HI on the west coast? Last time I checked the West Coast consisted of CA, OR, WA, (then BC), then AK.

A set of islands nearer the international date line than the California coast line is hardly West Coast.

Is PR (a US Teritory) or Bermuda (British Overseas Territory) also East Coast?

As an aside, I think the Cape Cod National Seashore is comparable to HI, though not in a Volcanic Green kinda way, but differently.

We just consider Hawaii an extension of the West Coast because it is so easy to get to from here. In around six hours you can get there nonstop to most of the islands from Vancouver depending on the time of the year.

The east coast and the Caribbean are like Hawaii to you east coasters to us west coasters and involve at least one if not more change of aircraft.

Hubby hopes to retire soon so hopefully we can explore more of the east coast.

I have visited the Caribbean Islands but have difficulty walking so Hawaii and US destinations are much more walker and wheelchair friendly.

I love vacationing in the US because your disability act is so strong and there are not many places I don't have access to. We are still behind you in that aspect in Canada not quite as disability friendly but getting there.

Who said Hawaii is on the west coast?? My post was in response to the OP's inquiry where she said:

and I replied:

Neither I nor the OP mentioned west coast there.

True but the OP then said this.

Islands are never likely to be a fair competition to mainland.

Seemed a bit East Coast shore/ beach.
Raise you HI.
The California coast etc is the comparison to the East Coast which was how this was responded to throughout. Never an island request from the OP or likely island solution.
That was my observations.

NYC and take subway to Coney Island and Brighton Beach. Visit the Russian area in Sheepshead Bay. + you have of NYC to explore by walking and to LI beaches(like Jones Beach), Jersy Shore including Atlantic City with reasonable public transportation
You can also visit the Bridgegate site.
