On Friday, Oct. 28, the resort will introduce its new restaurant, Auntie’s Kitchen, which will replace Ocean Pool Bar and Grill in the same venue poolside off of the resort’s south lobby. Auntie’s Kitchen was designed to celebrate the melting pot of flavors and cuisine that make up Hawai‘i’s local culinary culture.

It is the local custom to call respected women "Auntie" even if they are not related to you. I believe the food and beverage service is contracted out, so it may be that a local company created the name.

Hopefully, it's not just the Westin trying to use the local vernacular.

I've always liked the food and drinks there. Hopefully this new place is good.

I hope they have the same staff. We love our friends that work at the Ocean Pool Bar & Grill. Hoping they are all at Auntie's.

In the past it was Starwood who owned the food outlets and had a contract with the owners association to operate them. I assume that this continues under Vistana.

We were told of restaurant change and change to food venue. I liked Ocean a lot. It had great pupuus and a variety of things. I got tired of the food truck hamburger fair at WKORVN real quick as it was limited, spicy and Hamburgerish.

Aunties I was told was going to vary their menu with a variety of things. I am looking forward to see the menu changes.

My wife was informed that the store in WKORV was not owned by Vistana and that is why discount card did not apply.

I am unsure of restaraunt status

Makes me think of the Indian vernacular of the woman your mother's age that lives nearby.

A slight correction: in Indian vernacular "auntie" is anyone who is too old to be your sister.......doesn't have to be mother's age.......to a 5-year-old a 20-year-old is "auntie"!! Indians are also high on gender-equality, and the same applies to "uncle" - in fact a common lament among young men trying to impress young women paraphrases to something like "What cruelty....she called me 'uncle'!" :D

Whatever restaurant opens I just hope they have vegetarian options beyond french fries, quesadillas and nachos.

It seems they have a bigger variety but expanded their Lunch to a more robust menu.

It appears from the menu they have expanded the kitchen---is that maybe possible?

I really liked Ocean as it was relaxed and had a variety at all times. It appears they have enlarged menu to capture lunch and early afternoon crowd.

That works well for me

Still a long way to go to be vegetarian-friendly. A veggieburger costs $20?? That's steep even for Hawaii, especially when a carcass-based one is only $19?!?! Well, they added pizza, so there's that!

We do a short walk to the strip mall where the Times market is, and the Italian place there serves good pizza. Also, the Chinese place just south along the highway is also quite good.

Having said that, Ocean IS a relaxing place....great location to catch a game and a few Happy Hour specials
