I would like to make a reservation for December 2014. I have less than 10,000 point remaining for 2014, but 500,000 for 2015 and 2016. What is the best way to get the job done? What are my options?

I'd pool my 2015 points unless I was holding them for ARP.

You can also make a reservation with a check in date within the next 90 days using the total number of points you'll need for the December one you actually want. This will allow you to borrow 2015 points. You then cancel that reservation, and the borrowed points stay in the 2014 year as cancelled points.

You did not say where you wanted to go it may make a big difference in points need and for how long. Just use your points for as many days as possible and rent a reservation from a VIP Platinum Member for a back to back reservation. Keep your points for the years that they are in.

Make sure the reservation you're making for borrowed points isn't within 15 days. Because when you cancel that one for the points it'll be lost. Made that novice mistake once. Good thing it was a resort near me that I just went to instead of losing.

You can make an Express reservation within 90 days or within the 15 day window. You make an Express reservation and then cancel it to bring those points over which become cancelled points. You must cancel the reservation the same business day for reservations made 14 days or less. There is the "Same Day Grace Period" and you will not forfeit your points. You will get the points back as cancelled reservation points. You can make the desired reservation with those cancelled points providing that Wyndham has the availability? It is always a good idea to check first before borrowing points from a different use year.

This information regarding cancelling a reservation & "same day grace period" is in the Wyndham Members Directory 2013-2014 on page 324.

Yes, if you're within 15 days you can definitely still cancel on the same day you make the reservation and not lose the points.
