I'm planning our first trip to Palm Springs, March '15. I have a 1 BR at the Palm Springs Tennis Club on hold. We don't play tennis or golf but like walking. I've read on Trip Advisor that some areas of the downtown are rundown with a lot of homeless people. For a first timer, do you recommend this timeshare and area? Or should I wait and see if something comes available in the newer areas of Palm Springs? We'll have a vehicle so that isn't a concern. We are limited to RCI resort availability. Thanks!

You will do fine there. We were just at PS on the edge of downtown at Desert Vac. Villas. P.S. is really a small town. You will enjoy having a car. Book the 'Homes of the Stars' tour early. We didn't and it was full. Whole neighborhoods of mid century modern restored homes. Our TS was a block from Liberace's 2 from Sinatra's and 4-5 from Dean Martin's. The tours go in some, but we didn't. Fun to walk or bike there. The P.S. Air museum is OK if you are into WWII stuff, but pass if not. If you are into flea markets, one of the best is at College of the Desert on Saturdays. Great booths/food/entertainment.

Edited: I just noticed your dates. We were there this last March over St. Pat's week. The weather was perfect. Shorts/pool wear during the days and slacks/ possibly a light sweater in the evenings out for an outdoor dinner.

I was going to suggest you go to the Palm Springs Follies, but when I checked their website I found they are closing forever May, 2014. That's too bad as it was a really fun show.

I've only stayed at PS once, a couple of years ago. I stayed at a nice condo that was 3 - 4 miles (outside of easy walking distance) north of downtown. But when I go back, I definitely plan to stay adjacent to downtown in that tennis club neighborhood. That looked like the most interesting part of the area to me. I'm also a non golfer/tennis player.

Confirmed

Thank you all for your comments. I confirmed the unit. There hasn't been much available for March and this resort requires fewer points than most in Palm Springs. I always look forward to exploring new areas.

The Thursday night PS street fair is kind of fun and the College of the Desert Swap meet on Sat/Sun morning is also kind of fun.

OP is using RCI.

We've only ever stayed in the Palm Desert area. Hubby's mobility stuff means we drive everywhere anyway and we like the nicer pool areas at the somewhat upscale resorts in that area.
