Has anyone tried adding a new contract with a different use year to be able to push points forward? Or do the contracts get realigned when entering the account?

I have added contracts for that specific reason. And it has worked in that I have four use years now. However, the points rarely "push" forward when cancelling. I've tried it numerous times and the only thing accomplished has been errant points added to my account for the current quarter. Which has led to Wyndham taking my 2017 points .... I'm not pleased.

I added a contract about 17 months ago with an April use year and Wyndham changed it to the following Jan.

I was thinking that the use year would move forward. I discovered about a week or two ago that it worked out to my advantage. The former owner used the points, so he agreed to pay me 14 months mf rather than reverse the contract. I didn't need the points until that January for FL.

I had several different contract with different use years. Same Resort several years ago when Wyndham realigned everything most went to Jan.1. I did add another after that which was a different resort and July 1 date. This was left as it was and it has worked out great for me.
I book and cancel tons, since I use most of my points for rentals.

I have one contract with a different use year than the rest. Wyndham never realigned it, and they have not done so even when I've added other new contracts.

It's a nice way to use up those few thousand leftover points without losing them because they can be combined with the new points from the other contract year during the months that both contracts overlap.
