Can anyone shed any light on this update from the Q1 KBV newsletter I just received:

There have been many questions about the reciprocal pool use at Kauai Beach Villas, our neighboring resort. Despite the best efforts of your Board of Directors and the WVO team, Kauai Beach Resort (KBR) AOAO chose to charge KBV guests to access the pools, just as KBR charges their own guests. KBR management related that they received complaints that although KBR guests were being charged for usage, KBV guests were not. Details related to cost and procedures may be obtained at the front desk or by calling me or the team at any time.

I assume that any KBV reservations for this year will now have a charge assessed to use the resort pool this year. This really sucks as I don't think the onsite pool is big enough to really accommodate all of the onsite guests -- you almost need to use the resort pool. Can anyone provide anymore details on this?

Since the first of the year, they have been charging timeshare guests to use the hotel pool.

This is not an automatic charge - it's optional.

I'm hoping that the new mgmt. company can negotiate something better.

KBR management related that they received complaints that although KBR guests were being charged for usage, KBV guests were not.

I think this means that hotel guests are charged a resort fee, and timeshare guests aren't, and supposedly that is what is "unfair."

However, in the past, hotel guests were able to use the timeshare tennis courts, so it seemed like a fair trade. When I was there in Feb. and I asked if hotel guests were now being charged to use the TS tennis courts, they said they tennis courts were not available, because they were being renovated. So now that they are apparently ready for use, I wonder if hotel guests have to pay to use them?

This has gone back and forth in the past as well - not sure why, but they keep changing it.

Do you know what the optional charge is? And is it per room or per person?

We were there last week - they told us it would be $20/day per villa, up to four guests. There are signs at the walkways leading to the pools that advise KBV guests to register with the hotel's front desk to use the pools. We saw a few families going back and forth and they were wearing wrist bands. For the most part, the pool areas were pretty empty. The hotel didn't seem to be very full.
