We have an upcoming exchange (Marriott to Marriott) into the Kauai Lagoons resort in a 3-bedroom villa. The unit code assigned to our confirmed exchange is DTBBV, which according to the TUG data base designates the villa as 3-bedroom, Ocean Front view. I called the resort a couple of months ago to put in a villa location request. The woman with whom I spoke confirmed that my code was indeed an ocean front unit and that there are only 2 of those 3-bedroom ocean front units on property--both in building A--on the 1st and 4th floors. I told her that I didn't really care which of those two units we received.
Fast forward to today, when I received a phone call from the same woman under the guise of confirming our check-in day, etc. Then she got to the REAL point of her call, which was to tell me that although we would be guaranteed to occupy a 3-bedroom unit, we would not know the location of our unit until we arrived. I brought up the subject of the assigned unit code designating our villa as having an ocean front view. She told me that an ocean front location would most likely be "off the table," as a deeded owner at the resort "might want" the ocean front location, and an owner's request would trump my exchange.
When I initially called the resort a couple of months ago, there was no question about where our villa would be, based on the code assigned to it. My question is this--can a resort just ignore the code designation on my exchange reservation and downgrade the unit to a lesser view location? Having had both Garden and Mountain views at other Marriott Hawaii resorts, I know from experience that those locations are poured in concrete and there are no UPGRADES to a better view.
I would like to gather some information before our visit, so that we do not have to have this discussion upon arrival. All I know is that this feels like a bait and switch to me. I plan to call II, but maybe this is a question that I should direct to Marriott? Thanks, in advance, for any information/suggestions that you can give me!
