Hi,
I think I'm pretty well educated on TS terminology now but I still have two questions. I hope you guys/gals can help me fill in some of the missing gaps.

1. I still don't quite have a grasp on how much different point levels buy. Is there a way I can study the RCI or II catalogs before joining their system? Anyone have an previous year's book they'd be willing to give/loan/sell me?

2. Is there some rule of thumb for how much RCI points are worth on the resale market? I'm trying to get a feel by looking at ebay listings but each listing is different so very hard to tell. I'm hoping for a rule of thumb like $500 / year = 50,000 points.

Answering a bit of my own question:
I've pulled a handful of RCI listings off of ebay and plugged them into my spreadsheet to get an average annual maintenance fee per annual thousand points. I come up with $11.58 (meaning 50k points typically has about $579/yr. maintenance).

Assuming we took a 1 week vacation per year, I come up with the following costs:
$579/yr + $124 RCI membership dues + $124 RCI exchange fee = $827 for the week ($118/night)

Is that correct? Am I correct that you pay both a RCI membership fee and a fee every time you do a transaction?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Still trying to figure out how many points different places cost.

Yes, you pay the annual membership once a year. You pay exchange fee each time you exchange. The exchange fee varies depending on what you exchange into and how many days and if you do it online vs. over the phone. See this doc (RCI's fees updated this month) for details.

It is usually a good idea to buy into a resort that you plan to use on a regular basis to avoid these exchange fees. The penny per point sounds like a good rule of thumb.
