With the launch today of Fascinosa, Costa replaced all the beds lost on Concordia, and the new ship that will launch with almost 5000 passenger capacity will waaaay surpass the former ships. Good safety measures, too with musters before leaving port of embarkation, flagging passengers who miss it, and real-time tracking of all their ships courses will go a long way toward improving the confidence of cruisers.

"Costa said it was launching a fleet-wide monitoring system that allows the company to follow the routes of its vessels in real-time and pinpoint the exact location of each ship to detect any unexpected changes in course."

Ya' mean that weren't doing that before? Check out http://flightaware.com/
Some places have a website where one can see the location of each public bus.

Nowadays, whereever someone points out someone's mistake, I say:
"Let's keep this in perspective. Its not like they capsized a cruiseship."

Wow, so they're actually going to provide emergency training? As required by the USCG? What an idea!

When I went on a recent research cruise on our institution's ship, with crew and science party members who were all friends and co-workers, we had to do the safety drill twice! And don full survival suits while in warm sunny Mexico, twice. Why? Because it was a 10 day cruise, and USCG regulations say that all passengers must undergo safety training weekly. I can't believe that Costa was skipping that! They should be heavily fined or shut down, just for that violation alone.

Global, real-time tracking of marine traffic has been available for many years. Check out:

And I love your new slogan :D

They should stop getting their ship captains on eHarmony.com.

The rules for your cruise must have been different than a normal passenger cruise. I've been on many a cruise of fourteen days or longer, and I only had to do the safety drill once. Either that or they have just changed the rules, because it was once for fourteen days last December.

As for USCG rules, Costa wouldn't follow them, as they only apply to ships leaving US ports, which is not the case for Costa.
