Thanksgiving dining @HHI--Hugo's restaurant

Is anyone familiar with this restaurant? http://www.hugoshiltonhead.com

They are taking orders for Thanksgiving carryout. It sounds like a great idea, but I don't know the restaurant, so I would love to hear from anyone who has actually eaten there.

Thanks in advance!

The owner of Hugo's used to be at Fitzgerald's (in another capacity) back in the 70s, 80s, 90s, but when Fitzgerald's closed he opened Hugo's with the advertising pitch that he was part of Fitzgerald's.

Fitzgerald's was located on the property of the Adventure Inn adjacent to Grande Ocean on South Forest Beach Drive, and was a premier restaurant and a favorite of many. It was always rated highly. Some of our most memorable meals were there. Great steaks and seafood, and very consistent.

But times changed. IMHO, whatever the owner of Hugo's knew seems to be lost somewhere, because the two times we went to Hugo's it was awful. It in no way resembles Fitzgerald's, whether the food or the ambiance. Matter of fact the food was mediocre at best.

Google Hugo's:

or look at Tripadvisor:

The reviews are quite mixed, with a significant number reporting "terrible".
That was our experience, too.

So keep this in mind when you seek a Thanksgiving takeout. You might learn that it's good and decide to take a chance, but you need to do more homework and then weigh all the information. I wish I could report that Hugo's is great, as we loved Fitzgerald's, but that's not the case.

good luck and enjoy your time at HH, and hope you find something wonderful.

Wow, when you said "mixed" you weren't kidding!!!! I don't think I've ever seen so many pages of fabulous reviews, followed by just as many "worst place I've ever eaten" reviews. I was especially amused by the person who said something like "perhaps they were spoiled by the service they had had at McDonald's." Makes me wonder if the fabulous ones were plants.

We definitely WON'T be going there. So, on to plan B. Any suggestions?

Fresh Market has Thanksgiving 'carry out' food. Usually, you can order it on line or by calling the store.
