That used to be the case before when there was only one phase that was fixed. Now, there are two more floating phases and one more under construction.

It is still hard but doable if you are flexible with the timing, but don't count on getting prime weeks.

I am still at the mercy of the school calendar so even though I own a fixed week I never get a chance to use it. Hoping after the kids are in college we can start going to our january fixed week.

I would also recommend ZoZo and Asolare

Went to Asolare last Wed nite - was quite good. (vs previous visit)
Chefs come/go/move at the various StJ restaurants - so what may be good one year, may not be the next (and visa versa). unfortunately Sahara dust prevented scenic sunset, but great dinner/drinks and service this year at Asolare.

I haven't been to Zozo's since they moved to Caneel, and probably won't as many good choices in Cruz Bay. Ocean's 362 (at Zozo's last location) upstairs at bar also great for sunsets (hint)

I guess that's something to consider, people moving around. You may end up with ok or bad (and expensive) food and a good view.

We went to ZoZo's last year at its new location. The view was great but I thought food was just OK. Quite pricy.

Nothing at Caneel is cheap

True, but I was more talking about the price we paid vs. what we received. We also went to the Sushi Bar for lunch last year and didn't feel the price was too out of place.

True. We ate sushi and drank beach cocktails there on two separate days. Prices comparable to WSJ but better service and better ingredients in the cocktails.

If you are there get their lime in the coconut. Really well made. Best I had on the island.

If sure this is somewhere BUT which places to eat should we consider during our stay next week?

Caneel Bay has some great restaurants...love their lunch buffet

To open ended as many places to eat of assorted varieties and costs. Food is expensive. Good article by News of St John on all Happy Hour places

There's happy hour places??? Geesh, there's NOTHING to do in St John except beach stuff; nature hiking and some steel drum music. Or getting pissed at the Happy Hour Places...

Honestly, folks. It's mostly a national park. People go there to escape the rat race. :)

Odd, I would think the sunset should have been amazing because of the Saharan dust as the particles filtered and refracted the low angle sunlight..

Caneel Bay is awesome. They let you in without staying there? When I was there I had to have a pass to get in. Fantastic beach.

Interesting, we were let in to eat at the restaurants and utilize 2 of their beaches without a pass. This was in 2012 however, maybe things have changed?
