Hi,

I am not sure I understand what is legitimate with selling a week we have reserved so I want to ask in the newbie section to understand our options.

We have reserved through RCI a week at a Disney resort in April that we cannot use. Obviously we can give the week back to RCI and be out our exchange fee, but get our points back. We are wondering if we can sell the week in a forum like this or not.

Any help understanding what our options are will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Debbie

If you obtained the "reserved" week from RCI as an exchange, then you cannot sell / rent it out without overtly violating clearly stated RCI terms and conditions of membership. You can let someone else use the week, collecting no more than the exchange fee amount and the guest certificate fee in doing so.
Or, as you already noted, you can just return the reservation back to RCI and forfeit the exchange fee.

RCI routinely rents out weeks (at top dollar) which RCI has obtained as deposits from RCI members. However, RCI does not allow or extend to you the same options which they routinely exercise themselves.

Thanks for your quick reply!

So if we only wanted to rent it for the exchange fee plus guest certificate fee we wouldn't be violating RCI's policies?

If we wanted to try to recoupe some of the cost of our points we would be violating RCI's policies, correct? Do you know what the potential penalties would be?

I'm guessing that people do rent out places they're reserved via RCI, but it isn't something we've ever done, it is just that we have this good exchange reserved, but can't use it afterall so it isn't like we're trying to make a profit.

Thanks,

Debbie

It's against the rules to rent RCI exchanges, period. If you have a friend or family member to "gift" the week, you are within your rights to do it with the guest certificate. I think legally you can charge your guest the exchange and guest fees, but I am not really sure about it.

I would cancel it and suffer the consequences of the loss, unless I knew someone who would appreciate it.

Competition is discouraged...

Do you know what the potential penalties would be?
In the worst case scenario, if you were caught renting out an exchange the reservation (...and any other existing reservations within RCI) could be cancelled outright and thereby become unavailable either to you or to your "renter". Additionally, your RCI membership could also be suspended or terminated, without refund.

As stated previously, RCI wants to be the only ones renting out RCI member deposits.
