"You have won a $2,600US holiday" said the recorded telephone message.
Press 1 for more information.

I recognized the initial recorded voice as being from SFX. I pressed "1" and spoke to an operator who could hardly speak English. She went on to say something about my winning a holiday in Cancun... I told her that I recognized the voice as being from SFX, and she immediately said "Thank you for your time ma'am" and put down the 'phone on me.

Latest gimic to make money?

It doesn't sound like SFX to me. They've always been on the up and up in my dealings with them.

This is probably coming from Platinum Rewards which is a 3rd party and not a SFX product. VRI also offers Platinum Rewards.

I'm planning on taking a small ship cruise in Alaska, where the published rates are $4000-$5000 per person, depending on the cabin. I'm well aware that large ships are much less expensive but this is the experience we're looking for. Supposedly, Platinum Rewards can make sense for the higher end cruises. Has anyone found a scenario where Platinum Rewards makes sense, and did you use an exchange to get a discount?

SFX is now mixed up with an outfit called Platinum Rewards that has a bad habit of making pie-in-the-sky promises for cruises on the assumption that they can fool everybody. You can find online cruises for 20% of the prices they quote. And keep in mind SFX has little inventory to speak of relative to RCI and II, unless you want Mexico... and Mexico....and Orlando !

Suggest ypou ignore their phone calls - and don't waste your time.

I have confirmed exchanges for Kona Hawaii in April and HGVC West 57th Street New York City in August for this year through SFX. I have exchanged through SFX to the Manhattan Club NYC in July 2008, Scottsdale AZ in mid March for MLB Spring Training ( very tough trade ), Las Vegas several times, etc. To the best of my knowledge none of these places are in Mexico nor Orlando. Other folks have exchanged into Europe.

The initial voice intro is exactly the same as the one used by SFX. It is a British male voice. I am British and would recognize it anywhere. It might be a "canned" voice, but why would they hang up on me when I mention SFX?

;)

Nobody disputes your exchanges. Three of my SFX exchanges were to Mexico and one to Orlando. SFX could not provide exchanges to any one of a multitude of destinations I was looking for over a four year period. I don't have any evidence of how many other folks successfully exchanged to Europe or for that matter to China or Gabon. Nor do I care. I have my own destinations and resort preferences.

Not sure how you can substantiate this statement. Even if you look at the current SFX sell off list, there is not a single Mexico or Orlando resort.

SFX has a relationship with one of the Mexican resort chains and they always have a lot of availability with them.

If I don't deposit my spring Orlando week, they send me a lot of emails requesting that I do deposit that week. So, it doesn't appear to me that they have an overabundance in Orlando.

The Mexican resort is Grupo Mayan which is affiliated with SFX. Grupo Mayan has the Mayan Palace/Grand Mayan resorts in several resort areas in Mexico. The Grand Mayans are my favorite resorts by far having stayed there 5 times on exchanges with SFX. Each exchange was for 2 weeks at a time.

So you make a general statement that is not true just because you didn't get what you want. You should have stated that YOU were able to get exchanges only in Mexico and Orlando.

You have just twisted my statement to draw a false conclusion. I stand by my statement: "And keep in mind SFX has little inventory to speak of relative to RCI and II, unless you want Mexico... and Mexico....and Orlando !"
My opinion is just that - my opinion and it is NOT subject to your approval.

I expect you to express regrets about your inappropriate remark and provide EVIDENCE that SFX's inventory is just as good as RCI and II.

Folks - let's not make this personal, please. Let's attack the issues, not each other. :hi:

Thanks! I don't always have time to check every timeshare forum. I'm usually too busy planning lovely holidays. As a statement has been made there, I did read it. It didn't make me tick. Neither did my initial posting here.

OK then.... it must be a canned voice. I suggest SFX change their canned voice to avoid confusion.

;)

The voice you hear when you call SFX is Mel Grant's voice who is the President and CEO of SFX so why should they change it. I have had many long conversations with Mel in the past and he is a very nice person.

They need to be aware that it is the same voice. Maybe they need to find out who is "misusing" the voice if the call did not come from them, as on timeshareforums. com they have posted this: - I am 100% sure it is the same voice.

By the way, when you've read this, all those who are ignorant, please stand up!

So… to clear the air about some of the Myths and Rumors etc. Here are some “Facts” and not Fiction….

1. There is post making a claim that SFX has a phone solicitation stating you have won a $2,600 Holiday ! etc. They claim they recognized a voice on the recording from SFX after pressing “1” and that they spoke with an agent who could hardly speak English, and the agent hung up the phone on her etc… (This is paraphrased).

Well… We would like to point out there is absolutely “No Truth” to these outrageous claims. SFX has not, and does not have any marketing program like this, and is not the way we operate. The only out-reach program we have is our Membership department calls Members to see if there is an interest in upgrading their memberships. This is no surprise as “every company” does this.

Also, pressing “1” in our phone system does not transfer you to an agent in the call center. It is for dialing a known direct extension. Secondly… all our agents speak fluent American English. The claim in the post is false and misleading.

2. In a different posting, we noted more misleading and false information.

Just like “all” exchange companies, we have an online business model, as do most businesses. It’s a way of creating greater efficiencies for both the company and its valued customers. Customers can login 24/7 and this also keeps costs down for all parties. However, we invite our Members to call us at any time at 1.800.739.9969. Contrary to misleading statements, our phone system is not set-up so the caller has to leave a message.

Hopefully this clarifies some of the Myths & Rumors...
