We have just finalised our purchase of a platinum flaoting week at Harbour Lake in Orlando (MHZ) and we have also just joined II. We have the week available from 2010, however, we do know that we will not be using our home resort in 2010. We live in Europe (Denmark) and we just have increased the family with a baby boy :)whoopie: as we have a 2 year old girl already), so we won't take the long flight in 2010. We do not know when or where we want to trade to at this time, so it will be a deposit first exchange. We want to deposit our 2010 week for greatest flexibility and trading power, and there seem to be 2 methods of deposit. A "Marriott deposit" and a "Owner deposit". Which of the 2 methods should we use, and when should we deposit to maximize the flexibility and trading power?

Thanks for the help!

Congratulations on your new baby and your Marriott purchase!

The two types of deposits you are probably referring to are REQUEST FIRST and DEPOSIT FIRST. Take a look here to learn more about II and exchanging.

It's best to reserve your week and make your request 12 months in advance, but in your case that is not possible. Even so, reserve and deposit the most popular week that you can now, using II's travel demand index as your guide (generally, a holiday week). The sooner you make your exchange request, the greater your chance of getting the week you would like.

I hope this helps you get started.

Based on this clendar and II's Travel Demand Index for Harbour Lake, I would try booking a week 51 and then make the deposit. This would give you maximum trading power. You would need to start calling MVCI at 9:00am on December 17th. Start calling a couple minutes early. Also if login to your my-vacationclub.com account a couple of minutes early as well, and keep refreshing your screen, you may be able to do it online.

Take any check-in day that is available. They all trade the same.

Thanks for the reply.
I do understand the concept of deposit first and request first. Since I do not know when to travel I have decided on deposit first. However, according to Marriotts homepage (My-vacationclub.com) there is 2 ways of doing Deposit first.

1) Marriott Deposit: Marriott reserves and deposits my week with Interval International on my behalf as a Deposit First.

2) Owner Deposit: I will reserve my week and deposit it with an exchange company.

It looks a lot simpler with Marriott deposit, as they do all the work for you, but would it give the max flexibility and tradepower compared to if I book first and deposit?

Do not allow Marriott to select the week for your deposit. MVCI will probably never deposit the highest demand week in your season. You should reserve the week yourself. After my first timeshare purchase, Marriott deposited my week for me. It was one of the lowest demand weeks. I now reserve all my weeks myself.

I agree. It's easier than you think to select and deposit your own week. Choose a prime week, and you'll likely have better luck with your exchange.

It is very simple to reserve your week yourself and then call II and make the deposit. By far, that's the best method.

Congrats, btw- and welcome to Tug!!

Also, before you deposit, ask the II agent if they're offering a bonus week (accomodation certificate) for your deposit. You may get lucky and get an extra vacation week.

NEW - just told by an II agent......

I just called to see if II was offering any AC's for my property and they just said that the only way to get an AC now, is IF you get a mailer with a code on it.....then you call in. With OUT the code on the mailer you cannot get an AC.

IS this true. She said it started 2 months ago?

I was told the same thing yesterday. My question is how does an AC get triggered? How does II know I have reserved a unit with Marriott? Do I need to do a "request first" or does Marriott let II know I reserved a unit?
