I have unused points for 2009 that were rescued from 2008 - what can I do with them besides HGVC stays?

Thanks

I may be wrong, but as I remember the only option for rescued points is to use them at a HGVC built property, the year after they were rescued. So year 2008 rescued points need to be used this year.

I would agree that the only options for rescued points are:
1. Use them for a home or club-reservation b4 12/31.
B. Watch them go poof at midnight on 12/31.

But a recent poster said that when he reserved an RCI stay for next year, his points were drawn from his 2009 allotment. These were current, not rescued points, but it might be worth a try to see if the system knows the difference.

Ricoba and Talent 312 are correct. I say use them or lose them. How many points do you have? It is generally pretty easy to schedule a stay in Orlando and Las Vegas at any of the HGVC properties.

Find someone to buy them or give someone a vacation!

You can always give them away or try and sell them!

If I ever had this issue I would set up a vacation for soemone that could really use it an appreciate it.

I would also consider a business partner or employee.

Make the most of them!

Don't let them expire!

My two cents!

Donating points

You can also donate the points (through HGVC) for military families (when they return from deployment). Just call HGVC for details. FYI-You can not take this donation as a tax deduction.

That's good to know -- thanks for the info!

That's a good thought. I did that a year or so ago with a small amount of leftover points. They pool them together for military families. Thanks for the good reminder. :) I had forgotten this option, till you reminded us.

If you do donate for military families, usually families whose spouse was injured in war, I want to thank you as a person currently in the Military. I personally will not use the points but a lot of service members, mainly lower enlisted, never get the opportunity to stay in a nice hotel because of the cost. So, once again, if you donate, I thank you!

Similarly, if there are organizations that accept donations for other low-paying and equally-valuable professions such as firefighters and teachers, that could be a cool way to go as well

Cheers.

unused points

great information - thanks. I will not let them expire and likely donate. Is it possible to swap a "fixed" week (i.e. ski week 51) points that could be pushed to 1020 for rescued points without losing the fixed week?

You might be able to make a private exchange...
Someone could reserve a stay for 2010 for your use and you would make one for them in 2009.
But I tend to doubt that HGVC would accept reservations for the year 1020 (heh).
