best way to get an II reservation

always use a request first when trying to book an II reservation. You will get confirmed a lot earlier. I know this has been discussed in the past but I do about 40 exchanges/year and my request first always get confirmed.

Wow. What do you do with 40 exchanges a year?

Request First obviously only works if you want to travel before the date of your week.

Plus I'm looking at your timeshare portfolio. I know it's subject to what you own, but it looks pretty high end. Not sure whether that might have something to do with your success.

I frankly have never had an ongoing search with II come through, no matter what I do. But I always find something oneline that works for my one week I have with them.

Resorts: Sheraton Vistana Villages two weeks Vacation Village in the BERKSHIRES
I have had an ongoing request since Jan. trying to get next Aug. 2010. I deposited a two bedroom Sheraton Vistana Villages and I am searching between fourteen different resorts and am willing to accept a one bedroom. Still nothing, but when I call the guides they tell me more inventory will be deposited after maintenance fees are billed. I know I am looking for areas that are popular in the summer: Northeast, Virginia beach or Myrtle beach. This is the first time I have tried a trade using II. Any one experienced with II that can tell me if I have any chance? Sue

I never do a request first. I get ACs for most of my deposits, and even when I don't get an AC I deposit first. All my requests have been fulfilled. Sometimes the exchange comes through in a day - most often within a few weeks - only once have I had to wait 2 months for the exchange to come through.

In general, people deposit into II much later than into RCI, and many do deposit only after their MFs are billed. Some of us also wait to deposit until an AC is offered, which often happens less than 6 months out. I personally am planning on depositing two 2010 spring/summer weeks into II but have not yet done so. For one of them, I'm holding out for the AC. For the other, I just haven't figured out what I want to exchange it for yet so am in no hurry to deposit.

Having said that, though, if you're looking at late August when kids go back to school, you will likely have a better chance than if it's early August in popular summer areas.

As you know II is not giving as many AC like they use to. People are not traveling as much thus they are getting alot more inventory. So II does not need to offer the AC because they are getting enough inventory on their own.

If you want to do a request first you do have to have a good week to give up. With this technique for me it works because I most of the time get better weeks than what I give up. Sometimes it is an equal exchange. I do not like giving II my money without not having them work for it. I know it is all computer generated but think of this from a business stand point.

If you already have the money from a person who did a regular deposit and you do not have the money from a request first deposit who do you think II will give the week to(assuming both deposit want the same week). For me it makes since that II would want the money from the request first person first. Just my opinion.

Yes, this is true in general. I no longer get ACs for my Club Intrawest deposits, but I still do for Trapp Lodge deposits.

The deposit first work method works just fine for me - and obviously request first works for you. So we're both happy!

Some 90% of my II exchanges over the past ten years have been deposit-first and I always got a confirmation. But I list about eight or more options, never restrict to one week only. II inventory is usually better after M/T have been paid.
Regarding Trapp Family Lodge, - we stayed there last July on II exchange. We liked the resort and enjoyed the area. Most likely will request again.

The Starwood desk at II actually told me the same thing.

Yes, I got a call to that effect, they it should match after the first of the new year, however, they were trying to get me to extend my membership. My current ongoing search is pie in the sky so their reassurance didn't reassure me much - I'll be shocked if it comes through.

They actually called me, wondering why I hadn't been calling them on why my request hadn't been filled! This is an ongoing for July 2010 that I started in March 2009.

Vistana Villages is in Orlando, right? So you're trying to exchange a timeshare in a very overbuilt area for a summer week close to the Northeast metropolis. You said it yourself, it is pie in the sky. You didn't say which week you're trading at Vistana; some Orlando weeks are better than others, but none have great trading power and usually that's what it takes to get into Virginia Beach or Myrtle Beach in summer. I've owned week 26 in Orlando for many years, and even in the days when my resort had a high rating, I could never get into the northeast beaches in summer. If your other "Northeast" choices are not beach areas, you might have a better chance. If not, keep searching for your top choices, at least through January, but also look for places that might be easier trades.
(Sorry to be a wet blanket )

Did you put Sheraton Broadway Plantation in your request? It's a Starwood resort, so you will have the Starwood priority for that exchange.
