Mid-May. Gardenview 2br villa. Adults. I've not yet called to request a building/room. Is there a building, floor, view, etc. to request or avoid?

Thanks.

SurfWatch's two gardenview buildings are at the front of the property with views of the small pond and beyond that, the nicely-designed facade of the building which houses the indoor pool. They are the biggest buildings on the property and I believe that's because in addition to the 3BR units on the ends, there are also 3BR units in the centers. Neither one of them has any kind of an oceanview possibility, but the area is very nicely landscaped and peaceful.

If you're walking from the oceanvista and oceanside areas toward the front of the property with the ocean behind you, you pass by Sea Dunes here on your right and the indoor pool on your left:

Straight ahead across the pond is Sea Cove:

These are two views of the indoor pool building; one from across the pond midway between Sea Dunes and Sea Cove at your back and the other a close-up from the dock in front of Sea Cove. There have been outdoor movies on the lawn here, wine & cheese receptions on the outdoor deck, and various other events. Check your MAZE schedule when you get there.

These pictures are from 2007 and basically not much has changed, except the plantings are much more mature. You'll love it there, and I don't think there is a bad unit in the place.

I agree that there isn't a bad location in the resort. We did not request and ended up ocean front on our stay. Really nice resort! You'll have a great time!!

Nice Surfwatch pictures and description....

Great write-up... great details, Susan. One of the reasons why I like TUG so much! :D

You're welcome! The idea for posting pics to aid in describing resorts isn't mine, but I'm always happy to do it because it helps so much when others do it while I'm planning.

If you're looking for a nice nature walk, Old Hickory, check the MAZE schedule or ask the front desk staff about the guided tours - or just go yourself - to Pinckney Island (just over the first bridge from the island to the mainland.) We've done the kayak and bike tours but I'm pretty sure that there is also a walking tour, and the resort can arrange transportation over if you need it. Pinckney is a beautiful, serene place with lots of picture-taking opportunities.

We love Hilton Head and there are still so many things on our list to see and do, but feel free to ask about anything in particular.

Your pictures capture the beauty and peacefulness of the property. I love SurfWatch. We stayed there once in a 3 bedroom gardenview villa. We could only see trees from the balcony. I am probably one of the few exchangers who enjoyed the view. It reminded me of my camping days and brought back many wonderful memories of being in the woods.

We just got a trade into SurfWatch for the week after Christmas using an AC. We own at Barony and have also stayed at Grande Ocean, so are looking forward to trying out SurfWatch. We'll be at Ocean Pointe the week before and this will be a nice stopover on our long drive back to Ohio.

Does SurfWatch have bike rentals?

aka Julie,

Yes, Surfwatch does have bike rentals. They are located in the under-building parking area of the building just beyond the welcome center and the marketplace. There is a nice park near the resort that has many trails to ride bikes on as well as the usual HHI bike paths that you can join (it is actually very easy to ride over to Barony if you get home sick).

Thanks for the speedy answer. I see you own at Surfwatch, so I'll throw out a few more questions.

Our II confirmation says TOGA for unit. I assume that means garden view. Of the 2 garden buildings, is there one which is preferable to the other. We always ask for top floor on HHI. Also prefer end units, but are all the end units in these 2 buildings 3 bedrooms?

I have a resort map, is the park you are referring to Chaplin Community Park?

TIA.

We are going to be there the week after Christmas (Dec 25-Jan 1), too. Maybe a TUG get together. Our reservations doesn't show a unit, but we have a three bedroom unit. We are at the Monarch the week before.

aka julie,

Yes, it's Chaplin park- there are tennis courts there and a playground as well as fields to run and play soccer on. Also if you're driving at a busy time you can drive through Chaplin park and have a traffic light for a left turn if you're heading south on the island- the turn can be tricky without the light at busy times.

I think toga must mean garden view but I'm not sure. When you call ahead to request make sure they know you are a multiple week owner and maybe they'll upgrade you. The two garden view buildings are both well situated overlooking a lake and across the lake is the building with the indoor pool. At that time of year you may be happier to be close to the indoor pool if you are planning to swim.

We love Surfwatch- it's in a quieter part of the island with houses around the resort so the beach doesn't get so crowded. All the HHI resorts are great though- I'm sure you'll have a great time. We've never been at that time of year so I can't give any tips about what the weather will be like or if restaurants will be closed or not. I'm sure others here can help with that info.

 I believe we met last year (same timing) at Wild Wing Cafe with Dave M and a few others. We could only stay for drinks because we had dinner plans. Does it ring a bell?
